Introduction to Al Qur'an

Al Qur'an is the fourth and final Divine Scripture (The other three being the Psalms, Torah and Bible) that was revealed unto Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and on which the religion and Dīn (pronounced Deen) "دين" of Islam is based.
* Definition of Dīn: When the term Dīn is used for Islam, it obviously means a system of life where Almighty Allah (SWT) is worshipped and obeyed, not just in the narrow religious sense, but in a manner that includes all aspects of human life.
It took about 23 long years for completion of revelations from Allah to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and final closure of what is called today Al Qur'an. There are short and long chapters, called Surahs, in Al Qur'an. While many shorter chapters were revealed in one go, many longer chapters were revealed in portions and piecemeal according to the situation demanding a Divine revelation to address the issues of the newly found religion. Since Allah has taken upon Him the sequencing and placing of various verses and chapters, the Prophet of Allah was directed accordingly who then asked the memorizers of Qur'an to place and sequence the Qur'an.
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
(Surah 75. Al-Qiyamah (The Resurrection): 17) for, behold, it is for Us to gather it [in thy heart,] and to cause it to be read [as it ought to be read].

The Qur'an in the compiled form as we see and read today is Divinely revealed and arranged Book of Guidance for the entire mankind till the end of this earthly world. Since Al Qur'an is the last of the Divine Scripture that contains Divine Commandments, it is logical to believe that it has the power to serve as the constitution for the entire world, creating a universal brotherhood.

The religious scriptures are normally revered and read all over the world - but very few really strive to understand the wisdom contained therein. Like all religious scriptures, Qur'ān too was reveled for people with understanding to ponder over its verses and derive lessons for their benefit and to find the Divine Wisdom contained therein.

Allah says in the 29the verse of Sürah Ṣād " ص‎ " -The Letter Ṣād:

كِتٰبٌ اَنۡزَلۡنٰهُ اِلَيۡكَ مُبٰرَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوۡۤا اٰيٰتِهٖ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ اُولُوا الۡاَلۡبَابِ‏
"This is the Blessed Book that We have revealed to you, (O Muhammad), that people with understanding may reflect over its verses and those with understanding derive a lesson."

The Quran has been called a blessed Book in the sense that it is highly useful for man. It gives him the best guidance to improve and reform his life. By following it he has only to gain and nothing to lose.

We have already shared a number of verses from Qur'an on Al Qur'an itself. Herein under we have combined all these posts to serve as a ready reckoner:

We have a separate post on verses related to Al Qur'an "Selected verses on specific subject: Al Qur'an." However, this post is specifically to introduce Al Qur'an to our readers in general terms and as viewed by the scholars and exegetesThe posts given herein under would give a fair idea to better understand Qur'an, its compilation, essence and various aspects that one would come across while reciting the Qur'an:
Herein under, we share a very informative lecture by eminent Muslim scholar Nouman Ali Khan in which he describes The Qur'an, A Miracle and Guidance:
We will keep adding more verses so as to make this collection wholesome.

For compiled verses for more specific subjects, please refer to our exclusive reference page: "Selected verses from Al-Qurʾān about a specific subject."

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.
وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.

Note: When we mention God in our posts, we mean One True God, we call Allah in Islam, with no associates. Allah is the Sole Creator of all things, and that Allah is all-powerful and all-knowing. Allah has no offspring, no race, no gender, no body, and is unaffected by the characteristics of human life.
