Prophetic Supplication after As Salat (Supplications attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Believers often ponder over what is the difference between a prayer (as salat) and a supplication. Although prayer and supplication are different but connected aspects of spiritual devotion. Prayer is a wider way of connecting with the divine, while supplication involves making passionate, specific requests during times of deep need or desire.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in addition to offering obligator As Salat would make passionate pleading to Allah for his own forgiveness and that of his Ummah. When we read the prophetic supplications attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, we find a wide range of supplications both for general and exclusive times. Today we share yet another a supplication which the revered Prophet ﷺ of Allah used to make after finishing his Salat.

This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 82 Divine Will (Al-Qadar) /  كتاب  القدر / Chapter 12 No power can withhold what Allah gives / باب لاَ مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَى اللَّهُ) as Hadith 6615, given herein under:

Narrated by Warrad: (the freed slave of Al-Mughira bin Shu`ba) Muawiya wrote to Mughira. 'Write to me what you heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying after his prayer.' So Al-Mughira dictated to me and said:

"I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying after the prayer, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone Who has no partner. O Allah! No-one can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and the fortune of a man of means is useless before You (i.e., only good deeds are of value).

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.

We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

Note: When we mention God in our posts, we mean One True God, we call Allah in Islam, with no associates. Allah is the Sole Creator of all things, and that Allah is all-powerful and all-knowing. Allah has no offspring, no race, no gender, no body, and is unaffected by the characteristics of human life.

Protect children from devils when night falls (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

When I was a small kid, my father would never let us out after the nightfall or just before the Adhan for the Maghrib prayer (the evening prayer). And our doors used to be locked. Also no one visited others after the evening, for everyone knew the Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which forbids parents not to let their children out for evening time is the devils' time. For evil eyes are everywhere tracking the weak and meek and overpower them with their evil.

This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 59 Beginning of Creation /  كتاب  بدء الخلق / Chapter 15 The best property of a Muslim will be sheep / باب خَيْرُ مَالِ الْمُسْلِمِ غَنَمٌ يَتْبَعُ بِهَا شَعَفَ الْجِبَالِ ) as Hadith 3304, given herein under:

Narrated by Jabir bin `Abdullah:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "When night falls (or it is evening), keep your children close to you for the devils spread out at that time. But when an hour of the night elapses, you can let them free. Close the doors and mention the Name of Allah, for Satan does not open a closed door."

Times have changed and we no longer adhere to the warnings and cautions of our elders, specially that of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. These days even small kids are let out and loiter around, oblivious of the evil eyes and devils' spell. The culture of whatever we learn from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as adopted by our parents need to be revived and every effort be made to protect our children from the evil.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. Let the listeners of Adhan be witness for the caller on the Day of Resurrection (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Adhan is the prerequisite for offering prayer. The Adhan is the call to prayer, usually recited by a muezzin at five times of the day in a masjid, traditionally from a minaret. Although, todays the loudspeakers have replaced the mode of communication of the Adhan to the believers to come to the masjid for the prayer, As Salat, yet at many smaller places it is recited out without the aid of an electronic means of communication.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has been quoted as telling his companions about the reward of the Adhan caller, called muezzin.  This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 10 Call to Prayers (Adhaan) /  كتاب  الأذان / Chapter-5 Raising the voice in pronouncing the Adhan / باب رَفْعِ الصَّوْتِ بِالنِّدَاءِ) as Hadith 609, given herein under:

Narrated by `Abdur-Rahman:
Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri told my father, "I see you liking sheep and the wilderness. So whenever you are with your sheep or in the wilderness and you want to pronounce Adhan for the prayer raise your voice in doing so, for whoever hears the Adhan, whether a human being, a jinn or any other creature, will be a witness for you on the Day of Resurrection."

Abu Sa`id added, "I heard it (this narration) from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)."

The above said Hadith assures reward for the calling the Adhan, specially when one is in the wilderness, where other than men in the area, the jinns, animals and all other living creatures,  who will bear witness in favour of the Adhan caller and he would be thus adequately rewarded.

However, this does not mean that where loudspeakers are used, the volume is opened to its fullest level so that the Adhan reaches many many people of the vicinity. The too high volume may become a discomfort for the elderly and the sick. Let the Adhan be heard in the local community and not the other communities where such arrangements also exist.
A dream tells me to be a Muslim (Revert Experiences)

Each revert experience is unique and mind boggling. We have shared many such experiences before, but the one being shared is different from others. It is the revert experience of Ganiyat Solöye, a Nigerian woman, who saw a dream in which she is been told to be a Muslim.

Ganiyat Solöye, born to a Christian father and a Muslim mother, was always at crossroads as to which religion she should finally adopt.  Such difficult decision making usually erupts when a Muslim woman marries a a Christian. This is something which Qur'an cautions against. While Muslim men may marry a girl from the people of Book, that is Jews or Christians, but women cannot marry a man of any other faith. This is necessary that children normally adopt the faith of their fathers and a Muslim man is in a better position to raise his children in Islam.

Here was exactly the case: The father wanted his children to be Christians, while faith of the mother also influenced her children. Ganiyat Solöye accompanied her father to church and read Bible. But she also went to masjid along with her mother for Islam also attracted her for she found many odd things in Bible like Jesus being son of God or even god himself, or even her father changing another version of Bible from the one previously he gave her.

And then a dream made her take the ultimate decision of her life to become a Muslim. Please watch the full video of a revert experience below of how Ganiyat Solöye , a Nigerian woman converted to Islam:
The above said revert experience and many more as already shared in our reference page: Embracing Islam: Revert Experiences are simple amazing as how odds and dichotomy in one's previous beliefs and faith ultimately lead them to Islam. May Allah help those still mulling over to cross over to Islam and show them His light of eternal salvation. Ameen
May Allah (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us have unflinching faith and trust in Divine Wisdom and decisions and should never lament for we do not know that something better has been planned for us by our most caring Lord. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.

The Most Liked and Hated Places in the sight of Allah (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Places where one spends his most of the time has a deep impacting impression on his personality, thinking, personal dealings and even faith. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in one of his Hadiths has mentioned two places, one of which is most liked by Allah, and the other most hated.

This Hadith is quoted in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: Book 5 The Book of Mosques and Places of Prayer - كتاب الْمَسَاجِدِ وَمَوَاضِعِ الصَّلاَةِ / Chapter 52 The virtue of sitting in one’s prayer place after Subh, and the virtue of the masajid / باب فَضْلِ الْجُلُوسِ فِي مُصَلاَّهُ بَعْدَ الصُّبْحِ وَفَضْلِ الْمَسَاجِدِ ‏‏ / as Hadith number # 671 as under:

Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The parts of land dearest to Allah are its masjids, and the parts most hateful to Allah are markets.

That is one whose orientation remains towards Allah and the one who finds solace and tranquility in a place is the places of Allah, that is the masjids (mosques). Here a man of faith falls in prostration in front of Allah in total humility and submission, and knows his act of prostration will be accepted and rewarded. Even otherwise, in addition to offering five daily prayers, a believer interacts with others, which adds to the solidifying the bondage of brotherhood. Masjid is also a place where one learns about the religion, engaging in remembrance of Allah by using many attributes of Allah, alone or with a group. Such actions are most liked by Allah and rewards His servants profusely and in abundance.

As for the market places, where most of us tend to spend our most of the time to attend to our business or seek any form work or job, are places infested with the Devil and his aids. Thus it is generally seen that business deals are based on deceit and deception to hoodwink the customers and to attain undue profits.

Imaam an-Nawawee رحمه الله said in its explanation: “That is because Masaajid are the houses of obedience and bases of Taqwā whereas markets are a place of deception, treachery, interest (Ribā), lies, broken promises and turning away from the Remembrance of Allāh.”

We must, our dear brothers and sisters, spend least time in the marketplaces and rush to masjids to remember Allah. This does not mean that one should not do business and remain busy in worship of Allah. This hadith tells us to lay down priorities and even when we are doing business or job, our intentions should be honest, clear of any deceit and deception, and even if we have to lose for the sake of honesty, we should not indulge in negativities. For Allah compensates those who remember Him much and are honest in their dealings.

Do not forget to honour rights of others while observing As Saum (Fasting) other than in month of Ramadan

Fasting in the month of Ramadan is Divinely ordained on every adult and health Muslim, man and woman. Other than these obligatory fasts / As Saum, one can keep fast any time throughout the year, except the two Eids.

However, it is often seen that many observe fasts more than what is needed, something that was even observed by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in his days when newly reverted Muslims thought it would earn them more blessings of Allah. In this regard we share a Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in which he lays down the criteria for the non obligatory fasts so that rights of others, even the right of a man's body are not compromised or over looked.

This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 30 Fasting /  كتاب الصوم / Chapter 55:  The right of the body in observing As-Saum. / باب حَقِّ الْجِسْمِ فِي الصَّوْمِ) as Hadith 1975, given herein under:

Narrated by `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, "O `Abdullah! Have I not been informed that you fast during the day and offer prayers all the night." `Abdullah replied, "Yes, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Don't do that; fast for few days and then give it up for few days, offer prayers and also sleep at night, as your body has a right on you, and your wife has a right on you, and your guest has a right on you. And it is sufficient for you to fast three days in a month, as the reward of a good deed is multiplied ten times, so it will be like fasting throughout the year." I insisted (on fasting) and so I was given a hard instruction. I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have power." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Fast like the fasting of the Prophet (ﷺ) David and do not fast more than that." I said, "How was the fasting of the Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah, David?" He said, "Half of the year," (i.e. he used to fast on every alternate day). Afterwards when `Abdullah became old, he used to say, "It would have been better for me if I had accepted the permission of the Prophet (which he gave me i.e. to fast only three days a month).

The Hadith above clearly shows that while fasting other than the month of Ramadan, one has to be mindful of the strength of one's body to endure the rigours of fasting if these are done beyond a limit. Also while a man chooses to fasts for longer durations, he compromises the rights of one's spouse on him and others around. Let us not over do things to bag more blessings than others by indulging in worship that robs the rights of others on us. Let us follow a medium path in our worship, otherwise it will displease others which is least liked by Allah.
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it.

What do we learn from the fate of the disgraced (like Pharaoh) who remain alive in corridors of history

Anyone or any nation or civilization that disobeys the Divine Orders and ridicule His prophets and messengers, are bound to doom and ultimately perish. But their remains remain alive as sign of wrath of Allah for those who defy Him and such signs continue to "live" in the corridors of history as a sign of warning for all posterity.

We share today the 92nd verse of Surah 10 Yunus which is about the drowning and then saving of his body on Divine orders as a warning for all future generations, that anyone who even thinks of defying the Divine orders should think twice before taking any act of perfidiousness, disobedience and disloyalty to the Master of the universe.

Although the verse being shared is about the fate of the mighty Pharaoh, it applies equally to all demagogues of the world today who think a little power in their hands can let them dominate the meek and weak. In recent history, we remember Hitler for the so called genocide of the Jews, and we condemn it from every muscle in our body, yet we keep our eyes closed when the same people of Israelites who were saved by Allah, wage a far torturous genocide of the Palestinians, a people who allowed Jews into the lands presently occupied by Israel. Do we forget what is still echoing in the corridors of history?

Before our readers move on to read our selected post, it may be added here that in all history books before Islam, it is said that Pharaoh drowned when the sea met again after the safe exit of the Israelites, the mention of Pharaoh in Qur'an differs and it is clearly said that though Pharaoh drowned, his body was expelled by sea to be preserved as a sign of warning for all posterity that Allah will never spare the disobeying and merciless worldly gods and will have their names echoing forever as long as the world lives.

* Scroll down for the lessons we should learn from the fate of the disgraced

(10:92) We shall now save your corpse that you may serve as a sign of warning for all posterity, although many men are heedless of Our signs.

Explanation Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi:
Even today the place, where the dead body of Pharaoh was found floating, is pointed out by the inhabitants of that region. It lies on the western coast of the Sinai Peninsula and is now known by the name of Jabl-i-Fir`aun (Pharaoh's Mount). There is also near it a hot spring called Hammam-i-Fir`aun (Pharaoh's Bath), which is situated at a distance of a few miles from Abu Zenimah, where, they say, Pharaoh's dead body was found lying.

If the Pharaoh who was drowned was Mineptah, who ruled over Egypt when Prophet Moses was sent to him, his embalmed dead body is still lying in the Cairo Museum. When Sir Grafton E. Smith removed the bandages from his mummy, a layer of salt was found on the body, which was a clear proof that he was drowned in the sea.

That is, "We show Signs to the people over and over again so that these should serve as warnings and be the means of teaching them lessons, but it is a pity that they do not learn lessons even from such Signs as the dead body of Pharaoh."

Tafsir Ibn-Kathir
(So this day We shall deliver your (dead) body (out from the sea) that you may be a sign to those who come after you!) Ibn 'Abbas and others from among the Salaf have said: "Some of the Children of Israel doubted the death of Fir'awn so Allah commanded the sea to throw his body – whole, without a soul – with his known armor plate. The body was thrown to a high place on the land so that the Children of Israel could confirm his death and destruction."

That is why Allah said, ("So this day We shall deliver your..") meaning that We will put your body on a high place on the earth. Mujahid said, (your (dead) body) means, 'your physical body. "

Javed Ahmad Ghamidi Explanation:
These words of God became true word for word and the corpse of the Pharaoh was not accepted by the sea after he had drowned in it. It was expelled by it as an exemplary sign of God’s scourge. Later the corpse was spotted by people and they saw with their very eyes the fate of those who show rebelliousness against God. On the western coast of the Sinai desert the sites of the “Mount of the Pharaoh” and the “Bath of the Pharaoh” are memorials of this incident. Even today people living in the area which is a few kilometers up north of Abū Zanīmah point out the place where the corpse was found. In current times, among the mummified bodies discovered in Egypt it is generally believed that one of them is that of the Merneptah Pharaoh. This dead body is preserved in a museum in Cairo and invites every eye to learn a lesson from it.

… The experts of archeology may differ about the corpse whether it is of the same Pharaoh or some other one yet this fourteen century old statement of the Qur’ān about the corpse is much more trustworthy than their conjectures. In this way, God made his dead body an exemplary sign for even the Pharaohs of today but this needs eyes for observation and there is nothing more rare in this world than eyes which have insight. (Amīn Aḥsan Iṣlāḥī, Tadabbur-i Qur’ān, vol. 4, 84)

Tafsir Qur'an Wiki:
His body would remain intact, uneaten by sharks or other sea creatures. It would not be allowed to drift with the waves, but would be saved so that his end would be known to all and sundry. It may be that when others see your body they will take heed and realize that defying God and His warnings brings certain doom. They do not turn to them with open hearts and minds, nor do they consider their significance, be they evident in the great universe or within their own selves.

Having gone through the historical perspective and mentioning the narration as given out in Qur'an, let us see what can we learn from this episode:

Pharaoh's refusal to heed the warnings of Moses (in fact the Divine Warnings conveyed to Pharaoh through Prophet Musa) and his stubbornness in holding onto power despite the plagues sent by God are often seen as examples of arrogance and hubris. This can serve as a lesson about the dangers of pride and the consequences of refusing to acknowledge one's mistakes.

The drowning of Pharaoh (and later expulsion of his body from the sea) and his army serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of oppression and injustice. It underscores the idea that those who oppress others will ultimately face their own downfall.

The story highlights the power of faith and obedience to Allah. Moses and the Israelites trusted in promise of Allah and His deliverance, even when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. This can be seen as a lesson in the importance of trust and obedience in one's spiritual journey.

The event is often interpreted as an act of divine justice. Pharaoh's oppression of the Israelites and his refusal to release them from slavery led to his downfall, illustrating the idea that ultimately, justice will prevail.

Today we see people of Kashmir and Palestine being denied justice and are forcibly being subjugated, tortured, denied of all human rights, to an extent of robbing them of their homes and denying food and water, even the much needed medical facilities for those who are victims of brute force and merciless bombing and inhuman treatment.

The Exodus story serves as a symbol of liberation and redemption. The drowning of Pharaoh and the subsequent freedom of the Israelites represent the triumph of good over evil and the possibility of liberation from oppression. This should serve as a cue for those struggling for independence from the clutches of inhuman masters to continue to strive for their freedom, for one day all bondages are let loose, if one has faith in Allah and His promise of deliverance.

Let us then, sister and brothers in Islam, be faithful to Allah and do not extend our stature longer than ours and be always thankful to Allah, lest any act that smacks of disobedience or disloyalty have us stumbled to live in disgrace.
Good is Good in every matter of a believer (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

There is immense criticism on Islam by non Muslims worldwide for they think the Muslims are doomed by following Islam. For them, salvation lies in following Jesus (Prophet Eesa, peace be upon him). But perhaps they do not know, we have a guaranteed salvation by none else Allah, the sole Creator of the universe and the most merciful.

The guaranteed salvation means a lot to us as even if think of doing a good feat and for some reasons fail to do it, we shall still be rewarded. And we think evil, we will not be penalized unless we commit the that evil act. That is why a believer earns goodness both in good and otherwise times. Read the following hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and know how!

This Hadith is quoted in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: Statement of Asceticism and Piety / Chapter In the statement that good is good in every matter of a believer / as Hadith No. 7500 as under:

Sulaiman, Thabit, Abdur Rahman bin Abi Layli, it was narrated from Hazrat Sahib that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The believing man also has a strange condition that he is good in every situation. And this is not understood by anyone except the believing man that if he is afflicted with any pain and he is grateful, then there is a reward for him in that too, and if any harm befalls him and he perseveres, then it will be rewarded for him. I am also rewarded

Arabic Text:.

So let us remain steadfast in every situation we may be in, good or otherwise. If we have faith in Allah that whatever befalls on us is a test and accept our situation as something from Allah, all will will be good. And it is this steadfastness that brings glad tidings to every believer.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. The incredibly long and arduous journey to finding Islam (Revert Experiences)

Luck are the born Muslims who did not have to struggle much to understand and follow Islam. But blessed are those non-Muslims who chose a long and arduous journey. Islam did not come their way as a sudden flash of lightning. Though it happened to some reverts that way, but for most of the reverts, the path to finding Islam has been incredibly long, arduous and even at the cost of putting oneself to extreme rigours of living in jungles with monks, living in barns and meeting with people of diverse faith to ultimately find the truth. For this reason, I admire the reverts for their search for truth and their understanding of Islam exceeds that of many born Muslims, including myself.

Such reverts are generally well educated and it is through the wisdom that education inculcated in them that they tried to solve the jigsaw puzzle by picking and arranging pieces of information, cultural, spiritual and religious thoughts, that they finally joined all pieces together and found it was Islam that they have been looking for.

Today, in our series of posts on revert experience, share the incredible journey of Dr Abdallah Rothman to finding Islam. An adventure that takes him through the jungles of Thailand with Buddhist monks to Hindu priests in India and Rastafarians in Jamaica to finally accepting Islam. Being a therapist and expert in healing arts studies, he studied Taoism, Buddhism, Shinto, Christianity, that finally led him to Islam as Islam alone was able to answer all his questions which no other religion of faith could provide him.

Please watch the full video of a revert experience below and see how reading Qur'an melts hearts and lets non-Muslims enter the fold of Islam:
Today, Dr. Abdallah Rothman is the founder of Dar al-Shifaa and co-founder and Executive Director of the International Association of Islamic Psychology, working at the intersection of Islamic spirituality and mental health practice. He currently lectures, leads retreats, trains practitioners, and authors publications on his unique approach to Islamic psychology.
