A Wish too late - when Hell is brought near that Day

A man, whether believer or non believer or a plain atheist know from the heart of his heart that one day everything has to come to an end and thereafter all will be assembled to hand over their rewards and otherwise based on their performance in this world. This will be a very hard day, specially for those who will be empty handed.

That is how a picture is painted in the 23rd verse of Surah 89. Al Fajr (The Dawn):
"and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be?(89:23)
That is on that Day man will remember whatever he had done in the world and will regret, but what will remembrance and regretting avail him then. A Day when man will take heed and accept admonition: he will realize that whatever he had been told by the Prophets was true and he committed a folly when he did not listen to them; but what will taking heed and accepting the admonition and realizing one’s errors avail then.

And then he would realize what has he done to him in his life and lament:

يَقُوۡلُ يٰلَيۡتَنِىۡ قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَـيَاتِىۚ‏
(89:24) He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!”
Explaining the meaning of the verse, eminent Muslim scholar and exegete Ibn-Kathir notes that if he was a disobedient person, he will be sorry for the acts of disobedience he committed. If he was an obedient person, he will wish that he performed more acts of obedience. This is similar to what Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal recorded from Muhammad bin Abi `Amirah, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah . He said, "If a servant fell down on his face (in prostration) from the day that he was born until the day he died as an old man, in obedience to Allah, he would scorn this act on the Day of Judgement. He would wish to be returned to this life so that he could earn more reward and compensation.'':

So my dear brothers and sisters, whether you are a Muslim, non Muslim or even an atheist, know that well that this life is nothing but a testing ground to prepare yourselves for a an eternal life that awaits you. So before your life clock stops clicking, which may even be the next second, do things for which you shall be rewarded with a pleasurable life in the Paradise and not a life of hell which one cannot even imagine how painful it would be.

We have to make the choice now: Bear the hardships of this world for a good reward in the Hereafter or live  a life of lewdness, sin and joy and then face the blazing fire of hell forever !!

Please listen to explanation of the ayat by eminent Muslim scholar Nouman Ali Khan:
May Allah help us understand Qur'ān and help us to act upon the commandments of Allah contained therein. Aameen.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully.

An effort has been made to gather explanation / exegesis of the surahs of the Qur'ān from authentic sources and then present a least possible condensed explanation of the surah. In that the exegesis of the chapters of the Quran is mainly based on the "Tafhim al-Qur'an - The Meaning of the Qur'an" by one of the most enlightened scholars of the Muslim World Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi.
In order to augment and add more explanation as already provided, additional input has been interjected from following sources:
  • Towards Understanding the Quran
  • Tafsir Ibn Khatir
  • Muhammad Asad Translation
  • Javed Ahmad Ghamidi / Al Mawrid
  • Al-Quran, Yusuf Ali Translation
  • Verse by Verse Qur'an Study Circle
In addition the references of other sources which have been explored have also been given above. Those desirous of detailed explanations and tafsir (exegesis), may refer to these sites.
