Who will be the Three Unlucky People Allah will not look at on the Day of Resurrection

Qur'an is full of promises of His blessings and forgiveness for those who do good to them and others as well. At the same time, there those unlucky ones who did nothing that could please others, and so Allah too. For Allah says that anyone who looks after the others, feeds the orphans and travelers, looks after the poor, specially the widows, will have a higher status on the Day of Resurrection than the selfish and the misers.

The same theme is echoed in the sayings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in many of his Hadiths. We are sharing one such Hadith which is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 42 Distribution of Water /  كتاب المساقاة / Chapter 5:  The sin of him who withholds water from travelers / باب   إِثْمِ مَنْ مَنَعَ ابْنَ السَّبِيلِ مِنَ الْمَاءِ‏ ) as Hadith 2358, given herein under:

Narrated by Abu Huraira:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "There are three persons whom Allah will not look at on the Day of Resurrection, nor will he purify them and theirs shall be a severe punishment. They are: -1. A man possessed superfluous water, on a way and he withheld it from travelers. -2. A man who gave a pledge of allegiance to a ruler and he gave it only for worldly benefits. If the ruler gives him something he gets satisfied, and if the ruler withholds something from him, he gets dissatisfied. -3. And man displayed his goods for sale after the `Asr prayer and he said, 'By Allah, except Whom None has the right to be worshipped, I have been given so much for my goods,' and somebody believes him (and buys them). The Prophet (ﷺ) then recited: "Verily! Those who purchase a little gain at the cost of Allah's Covenant and their oaths." (3.77)

In the hadith above, three categories of the unlucky people have been mention.
  • A man who can feed the travelers and provide them water but holds back despite abundance of resources available to him. These resources are in his possessions not due to his handwork but blessed on him by Allah as a test. If one fails the test, he ranks in the unlucky people whom Allah will not even have a look on the Day of Resurrection.
  • The second category is of those people who take allegiance of support to the a ruler hoping to be rewarded. The allegiance of support to the a JUST ruler without any lust is the hallmark of a believer. But only unjust rulers reward people who support them and then reward them. Such supporters and rulers both will be among the lowly category of people who will be totally ignored by Allah.
  • The third category is that of traders who swear upon Allah to to sell his merchandise which he purchased at a much lesser price but enticed buyers by swearing on Allah that he is selling his merchandise on no profit. Such traders too will be among the ranks of unlucky people and will be ignored by Allah.
While cautioning believers, the Prophet then recited the 77th verse of Surah 3. Al'Imran:

(3:77) There shall be no share in the Life to Come for those who sell away the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a trivial gain. On the Day of Resurrection Allah will neither address them, look at them, nor will He purify them. A painful chastisement lies ahead of them.

Let us then, be God fearing, honest, man loving and good to others and believe in blessings of Allah. If we have these traits, Allah promises good reward and elevated status on the Day of Resurrection. Time is too short to bag as much blessings of Allah as possible to meet our Creator with heads high, In Sha Allah.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

Note: When we mention God in our posts, we mean One True God, we call Allah in Islam, with no associates. Allah is the Sole Creator of all things, and that Allah is all-powerful and all-knowing. Allah has no offspring, no race, no gender, no body, and is unaffected by the characteristics of human life.
