In one of the Hadiths, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has mentioned two believers whom he said he envied. This Hadith is mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (Book 66 - Virtues of the Qur'an كتاب فضائل القرآن / Chapter 20: Wish to be the like of the one who recites the Qur'an باب اغْتِبَاطِ صَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ ) as Hadith 5025, given herein under:
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ عَلَى اثْنَتَيْنِ، رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ الْكِتَابَ وَقَامَ بِهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ، وَرَجُلٌ أَعْطَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَهْوَ يَتَصَدَّقُ بِهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ".
Narrated by`Abdullah bin `Umar: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Not to wish to be the like except of two men. A man whom Allah has given the knowledge of the Book and he recites it during the hours of the night, and a man whom Allah has given wealth, and he spends it in charity during the night and the hours of the day."
The above quoted Hadith mentions these two believers whom the Prophet of Allah has said to be envied. And how easy it is to fall into these two categories: Being the one who recites Qur'an during the hours of the night, and a man who is charitable and looks after the poor.
If we follow the Divine commandments as contained in Qur'an and the Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, we come across many categories of believers who Allah has ordained to be placed in higher pedestals than the rest. And the acts that make one believer sit higher on ladder of the blessed ones are many, yet easy to attain and follow. We have been sharing many verses from Qur'an which list out such enviable believers so that we too make an endeavour to emulate their deeds that Allah and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ have promised to be rewarded greatly than others.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.
وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.
May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.
Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.
