Good is Good in every matter of a believer (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

There is immense criticism on Islam by non Muslims worldwide for they think the Muslims are doomed by following Islam. For them, salvation lies in following Jesus (Prophet Eesa, peace be upon him). But perhaps they do not know, we have a guaranteed salvation by none else Allah, the sole Creator of the universe and the most merciful.

The guaranteed salvation means a lot to us as even if think of doing a good feat and for some reasons fail to do it, we shall still be rewarded. And we think evil, we will not be penalized unless we commit the that evil act. That is why a believer earns goodness both in good and otherwise times. Read the following hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and know how!

This Hadith is quoted in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: Statement of Asceticism and Piety / Chapter In the statement that good is good in every matter of a believer / as Hadith No. 7500 as under:

 Sulaiman, Thabit, Abdur Rahman bin Abi Layli, it was narrated from Hazrat Sahib that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The believing man also has a strange condition that he is good in every situation. And this is not understood by anyone except the believing man that if he is afflicted with any pain and he is grateful, then there is a reward for him in that too, and if any harm befalls him and he perseveres, then it will be rewarded for him. I am also rewarded

Arabic Text:. 

 وَاللَّفْظُ لِشَيْبَانَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَی عَنْ صُهَيْبٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَجَبًا لِأَمْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِنَّ أَمْرَهُ کُلَّهُ خَيْرٌ وَلَيْسَ ذَاکَ لِأَحَدٍ إِلَّا لِلْمُؤْمِنِ إِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ سَرَّائُ

So let us remain steadfast in every situation we may be in, good or otherwise. If we have faith in Allah that whatever befalls on us is a test and accept our situation as something from Allah, all will will be good. And it is this steadfastness that brings glad tidings to every believer. 

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door. 

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

When to wait for the Hour (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

All Divine religions mention of the Doomsday -  a day which will be the end of the world and the moment of final judgment. In Islam, it is called "Yawm al-Qiyāmah - القيامة ." On this day, all the people who have ever lived will be raised from the dead and will face judgement by Allah. 

The the seventy-fifth chapter (sūrah) of the Qur'an mentions the concept of the Doomsday. Right in the first verse, Allah Himself swears by the Day of Resurrection, a reality no matter how much we try to escape will befall on man and every man will then be subjected to a the most difficult test of his life as compared to the tests and trials of the worldly life.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in his life mentioned many a indicators and landmark events which will foretell the end of the world. Some of the signs are mentioned herein under:

• The smoke (Dukkhan);
• Dajjal (the AntiChrist);
• Dabbatul-Ard (the Beast of the Earth);
• Rising of the sun from its setting place (i.e. the West);
• coming down of Isa, son of Maryam;
• Gog and Magog

There are other indicators too that the revered Prophet of Allah mentioned. Out of those we share one in our post today. This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 81 - To make the Heart Tender (Ar-Riqaq) /  كتاب الرقاق / Chapter 35:  The disappearance of Al-Amanah / باب رَفْعِ الأَمَانَةِ) as Hadith 6496, given herein under:

Narrated by Abu Huraira:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour." It was asked, "How will honesty be lost, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)?" He said, "When authority is given to those who do not deserve it, then wait for the Hour."

Arabic Text:

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ، حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِلاَلُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ إِذَا ضُيِّعَتِ الأَمَانَةُ فَانْتَظِرِ السَّاعَةَ ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ كَيْفَ إِضَاعَتُهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏"‏ إِذَا أُسْنِدَ الأَمْرُ إِلَى غَيْرِ أَهْلِهِ، فَانْتَظِرِ السَّاعَةَ ‏"‏‏.

Let us look around us and we will find that by and by honesty is being overtaken by deceit and lies and in the garb of these ills, people who do not otherwise deserve authority are taking over positions of power, relegating the pious and the just to the backdrop. Aren't we inching toward the Hour, already??

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door. 

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

A supplication that has the power of opening of gates of Jannah (Paradise)

Supplications are special prayers that invoke the very many mercies of Allah and help in finding solutions and Divine guidance to problems faced by the believers. These supplications abound in the Qur'an, specially attributed to prophets and messengers of Allah who made these supplications in difficult times to help them in ensuring the message of Allah is accepted by their people.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ too have been encouraging his companions to supplicate to Allah to have their wishes and wants realized. Besides, there are many supplications that exalt Allah in as best words as there can be. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also encouraged and supported the supplications made even by the ordinary believers and appreciating the way they remembered Allah.

One such supplication is quoted in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: Book 5 The Book of Mosques and Places of Prayer - كتاب الْمَسَاجِدِ وَمَوَاضِعِ الصَّلاَةِ / Chapter 27  ZWhat is to be said between the opening takbir and the recitation of the Qur’an - باب مَا يُقَالُ بَيْنَ تَكْبِيرَةِ الإِحْرَامِ وَالْقِرَاءَةِ/ as Hadith number # 601 as under:

Ibn 'Umar reported:

While we said prayer with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), one among the people said: Allah is truly Great, praise be to Allah in abundance. Glory be to Allah in the morning and the evening. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon, him) said: Who uttered such and such a word? A person among the people said: It is I, Messenger of Allah (who have recited these words). He (the Holy Prophet) said: It (its utterance) surprised me, for the doors of heaven were opened for It. Ibn 'Umar said: I have not abandoned them (these words) since I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying this.

Arabic Text:

حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذْ قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ كَبِيرًا وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ كَثِيرًا وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلاً ‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ مَنِ الْقَائِلُ كَلِمَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ عَجِبْتُ لَهَا فُتِحَتْ لَهَا أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فَمَا تَرَكْتُهُنَّ مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ ‏.

A very small, yet power supplication that opened the doors of Jannah for the one who recited it. We too should remember such supplications and continue to recited these as much as we can for we never know when our small supplications have the doors of paradise opened for us.

Prophetic Direction (attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) about funeral of death of newly born

There are many issues regarding the birth of a newly born. Generally it is taken that a child born to a Hewish family is a jew or Christian if born to a Christian family. However, as per Islamic faith every child born is a Muslim by birth, though later he /she may follow faith followed by parents.

So when it comes to burial of child upon birth, a funeral prayer must be prayed. And if Father is a Muslim while the mother may not be, the child be buried as per Islamic rituals and funeral arranged.

Read below a hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and know the modalities as described by the prophetic direction.

This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 23 - Funerals (Al-Janaa'iz) /  كتاب الجنائز / Chapter 79:  If a boy becomes a Muslim and then dies, should a funeral prayer be offered for him? Should Islam be explained to a boy? / باب إِذَا أَسْلَمَ الصَّبِيُّ فَمَاتَ هَلْ يُصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَهَلْ يُعْرَضُ عَلَى الصَّبِيِّ الإِسْلاَمُ) as Hadith 1358, given herein under:

Narrated by Ibn Shihab:

The funeral prayer should be offered for every child even if he were the son of a prostitute as he was born with a true faith of Islam (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone). If his parents are Muslims, particularly the father, even if his mother were a non-Muslim, and if he after the delivery cries (even once) before his death (i.e. born alive) then the funeral prayer must be offered. And if the child does not cry after his delivery (i.e. born dead) then his funeral prayer should not be offered, and he will be considered as a miscarriage. Abu Huraira, narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Every child is born with a true faith (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone) but his parents convert him to Judaism or to Christianity or to Magainism, as an animal delivers a perfect baby animal. Do you find it mutilated?" Then Abu Huraira recited the holy verses: 'The pure Allah's Islamic nature (true faith i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone), with which He has created human beings.' " (30.30).

Arabic Text:

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ يُصَلَّى عَلَى كُلِّ مَوْلُودٍ مُتَوَفًّى وَإِنْ كَانَ لِغَيَّةٍ، مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّهُ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِطْرَةِ الإِسْلاَمِ، يَدَّعِي أَبَوَاهُ الإِسْلاَمَ أَوْ أَبُوهُ خَاصَّةً، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ أُمُّهُ عَلَى غَيْرِ الإِسْلاَمِ، إِذَا اسْتَهَلَّ صَارِخًا صُلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ، وَلاَ يُصَلَّى عَلَى مَنْ لاَ يَسْتَهِلُّ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّهُ سِقْطٌ، فَإِنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ مَا مِنْ مَوْلُودٍ إِلاَّ يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ، فَأَبَوَاهُ يُهَوِّدَانِهِ أَوْ يُنَصِّرَانِهِ أَوْ يُمَجِّسَانِهِ، كَمَا تُنْتَجُ الْبَهِيمَةُ بَهِيمَةً جَمْعَاءَ هَلْ تُحِسُّونَ فِيهَا مِنْ جَدْعَاءَ ‏"‏‏.‏ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه – ‏{‏فِطْرَةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا‏}‏ الآيَةَ‏.‏

What to supplicate when mounting an animal or any means of transportation (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Embarking upon a journey is an act which entail many a unforeseen hurdles and events. Therefore, when embarking upon any means of transportation, one must ask help from Allah for a safe journey and return. Awhile ago, we shared a supplication mentioned in the the 13th verse Surah 43. Az-Zukhruf of Qur'an for embarking upon a journey:

لِتَسۡتَوٗا عَلٰى ظُهُوۡرِهٖ ثُمَّ تَذۡكُرُوۡا نِعۡمَةَ رَبِّكُمۡ اِذَا اسۡتَوَيۡتُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ وَتَقُوۡلُوۡا سُبۡحٰنَ الَّذِىۡ سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهٗ مُقۡرِنِيۡنَۙ‏  

(43:13) so that when you are mounted upon them you may remember the bounty of your Lord, and say: “Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to Us whereas we did not have the strength to subdue it."

* Supplication / dua before mounting  a means of transportation

Today we share a supplication attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which he used to make when mounting an animal. This Hadith is mentioned Jami` at-Tirmidhi  (48 -  Chapters on Supplication / كتاب الدعوات عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم / Chapter # 46 What Has Been Related About What One Says When Riding An Animal / باب مَا يَقُولُ إِذَا رَكِبَ النَّاقَةَ  ) as Hadith number # 3446:

Ali bin Rabi’ah said:

“I witnessed Ali having an animal brought to him to ride. When he placed his foot in the stirrup he said: ‘In the Name of Allah,’ (Bismillāh) [three times]. So then, once he had ascended upon its back, he said: ‘All praise is due to Allah.’ (Al-ḥamdulillāh) then he said: Glory is to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we were not able to do it. And, surely, to our Lord are we returning (Subḥān alladhī sakh-khara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahū muqrinīn. Wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn). Then he said: ‘All praise is due to Allah (Al-ḥamdulillāh)’ – three times – and ‘Allah is the Greatest (Allāhu Akbar)’ – three times – ‘Glory is to You, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for indeed none forgives sins except You (Subḥānaka innī qad ẓalamtu nafsī faghfirlī fa-innahū lā yaghfirudh-dhunūba illā ant).’ Then he laughed. So I said: ‘O Commander of the Believer! What caused you to laugh?’ He said: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah do as I did, then he (ﷺ) laughed, so I said, ‘What cause you to laugh?’ Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘Indeed, your Lord is very pleased with His worshipper when he says: “O my Lord, forgive me my sins, indeed, no one other than You forgives sins.”

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، قَالَ شَهِدْتُ عَلِيًّا أُتِيَ بِدَابَّةٍ لِيَرْكَبَهَا فَلَمَّا وَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ فِي الرِّكَابِ قَالَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ ثَلاَثًا فَلَمَّا اسْتَوَى عَلَى ظَهْرِهَا قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏:‏ ‏(‏ سبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ * وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ ‏)‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ثَلاَثًا وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ثَلاَثًا سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي قَدْ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ ضَحِكَ ‏.‏ فَقُلْتُ مِنْ أَىِّ شَيْءٍ ضَحِكْتَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم صَنَعَ كَمَا صَنَعْتُ ثُمَّ ضَحِكَ فَقُلْتُ مِنْ أَىِّ شَيْءٍ ضَحِكْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏"‏ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَيَعْجَبُ مِنْ عَبْدِهِ إِذَا قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ غَيْرُكَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رضى الله عنهما ‏.‏ قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏

Grade: Sahih (Darussalam)

This is a very useful supplication which we must make too when mounting on an animal or any means of transportation, for it is the help of Allah alone which can make our journey safe, free of any hazards, and bring us back in safety too.

This supplication reminds man that God has placed him in charge of the earth, putting at his disposal its considerable and varied power and potential. It also invites man to show gratitude for God's choice and blessings, reminds him of the One who grants blessings every time such a blessing is enjoyed. Such expressions of gratitude for God's blessings is sure to keep our hearts alive to their bond with God at every turn in life: "So that when you are seated on their backs you remember your Lord's blessings and say: 'Limitless in His glory is He who has made all this subservient to our use. We could not have done it by ourselves." [Qur'an Wiki - in explanation of Qur'anic verse mentioned in the beginning of the post. Since both the verse from Qur'an and the Hadith mentioned in this post carry the same theme, it has been mentioned here.]

While making the above mentioned supplication, one must also seek forgiveness for all sins and invoke the blessings and mercy of Allah. And the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Indeed, your Lord is very pleased with His worshipper when he says: “O my Lord, forgive me my sins, indeed, no one other than You forgives sins."

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door. 

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

The difference between Hadith (حديث) and Hadith e Qudsi (الحديث القدسي)

We at Islam: My Ultimate Decision have been sharing Hadiths and Hadith e Qudsi attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regularly for the information of of our readers for these explain the Divine Commandments contained in the Qur'an. Islam is not complete unless we read Qur'an along with the Hadiths and Hadith e Qudsi attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

However, many a reader have asked time and again to explain the difference between these two types of Hadiths, though we have already explained the difference earlier in our reference page of Hadith e Qudsi. 

The straight difference between Qur'an and Hadith e Qudsi is that the text of Qur'an is verbatim from Allah, which were conveyed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and were conveyed to his companions in the same Divine words without any alteration. That is the words and meaning of the text of Qur'an is UNALTERED and remains unaltered as Allah Himself has taken upon Him the responsibility of conservation of Qur'an from any infiltration of manmade alterations.

What is a Hadith?

Let us first understand what a Hadith is. In order to exclusively explain the difference, we make another attempt through this post. In simple words, Hadith is a collection of narratives about the prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It was written long after his passing and classified by varying degrees of authenticity.

 The best way to define the Hadith is as a record of traditions or stories about the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Hadith is revered and accepted as a major source of Sharia law, moral ethos, and second in its authority to the Quran. These texts differ from the Quran, as they are not a singular text, but a collection of them. The Hadith consists of 6 collections. Two collections are held In the highest regard: Sahih Al Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. The other four books are Sunan At Tirmidhi, Sunan Abu Dawud, Sunan an-Nasai, and Sunan Ibn Majah.

The Hadith texts weren't written down during the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. They were transmitted orally before being written down and gathered in the 8th and 9th centuries; more than 100 years after his death. There is a network of narrators of the Hadiths called isnad. They include Abu Hurairah, who narrated over 5,000 hadiths, Abdullaah Ibn Abbaas, who narrated nearly 3,000 hadiths, and Abu Bakr. The Hadith from Sahih Bukhari had over 1,000 narrators within its text. The most accepted hadiths consist of core Islamic beliefs relating to the Quran. Hadiths are seen as less reliable, as they stretch away from the core tenets within the Quran. Islamic scholars scrutinize the hadiths in a variety of ways, including the character of the people narrating the hadiths. Hadiths are ranked as authentic, acceptable, weak, or fabricated. [1]

In short, Hadiths are the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that cover a vast sphere of our lives and how to live it in the light of Qur'an and directions provided by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

What is a Hadith e Qudsi?

Now we come to Hadith e Qudsi which simple means "pure" or "holy Hadith." These Hadiths are unique because their content is attributed to God but the actual wording was credited to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This may be one of the reasons they are not included in the Quranic revelations, which are considered to be the verbatim word of Allah but rather are given a special category, thus occupying a status between Quran and normal Hadith text.

Sacred tradition or report. Also called hadith rabbani or hadith ilahi (divine hadith). Refers to a saying (hadith) of the Prophet Muhammad in which the meaning is revealed by God and the phrasing is formulated by the Prophet. Unlike prophetic hadith (hadith nabawi), the chain of transmission is traced back directly to God instead of ending with the Prophet. In contrast to the Quran, which is considered divine revelation in both meaning and wording, the authenticity of sacred hadith varies from one narration to another, and they may not be recited in prayer. They function as extra-Quranic revelation. [2]

For example read carefully the text of the following Hadith. The Hadith is narrated by Abu Hurayrah, one of the most authentic Hadith collector of the Prophet's time, who reported that Allah's messenger said:

Allah, Mighty and Exalted is He, said: "If My servant likes to meet me, I like to meet him, and if he dislikes to meet Me, I dislike to meet him."

As is clear from the language of the text, it is a directly from Allah, but it is not part of the Qur'an for its wordings are NOT EXACTLY as that of Divine wordings. However, the substance or the matter is the same, the only difference is that it is as said by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. 

There are two sets of Hadith e Qudsi, one containing 40 Hadiths and other containing 110 Hadiths. Of these who generally use Hadiths that are mentioned both in Hadiths compilation of  Sahi al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim. Such  Hadiths are graded as Muttafaqun Alayhi, that is agreed upon by the two compilations.

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door. 

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏

Who will be the lucky 70,000 to enter the Paradise without rendering account (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

It is the earnest will and desire of everyone born, even many a atheist, to enter the Paradise and live in this heavenly abode of comforts forever. For attainment of of this desire, most of us try to desist all satanic enticements and try to live a humble life without harming or even thinking of ill of someone. We endeavour to be honest, loving and truthful to others, while trying our best to worship Allah to the best of our abilities and trying to beat back every ill desire.

In this regard, a Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ comes as a beacon of hope to enter the Paradise. The revered Prophet Muhammad ﷺ once indicated that 70,000 of his ummah will enter Paradise without rendering their account. When I read this part of the Hadith, I thought why only 70,000 as there have been millions and millions of Muslims who lived and died and almost two billion presently alive?

Today I came across the full text of the Hadith and found the answer. This Hadith is mentioned in in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: Book of Faith as Hadith number # 525 as under:

Imran b. Husain reported: 

Verily the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Seventy thousand men of my Ummah would enter Paradise without rendering account. They (the companions of the Holy Prophet) said: Who would be those, Messenger of Allah? He (the Holy Prophet) said: They would be those who neither practice charm, not take omens, nor do they cauterise, but they repose their trust in their Lord.

Arabic Text:

حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا حَاجِبُ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَبُو خُشَيْنَةَ الثَّقَفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ»، قَالُوا: مَنْ هُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: «هُمُ الَّذِينَ لَا يَسْتَرْقُونَ، وَلَا يَتَطَيَّرُونَ، وَلَا يَكْتَوُونَ، وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ»

Today, I am much wiser about who those lucky 70,000 would be as hinted by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In fact these small acts, which we more than usual resort to almost throughout our lives, yet remain oblivious of their negative fallout on our forgiveness on the day of judgement. 

Let us take a rundown of these lucky believers - as mentioned in the Hadith above, these will be those who never indulged in the following three things and reposed their trust in their Lord:

• Practicing charm: 
• A charm is a magical spell or an object that brings luck: it's also a quality of being attractive and pleasing. To charm someone is to attract them. There are several types of charms, but they mostly relate to attraction and good luck. A lucky coin is a charm. The spell of a witch that entrances you is a charm. 
• Magic or charms are strictly forbidden in Islam and those who indulge in such activities, the one who practices it and those who got such people to have their desires fulfilled, mostly by hurting other by way of magic.
• Taking omens: 
• An omen is an event or happening that you take as sign of something to come. It's believed to be a bad omen if a black cat crosses your path or if it rains on your wedding day. Omens generally get a bad rap — that's probably because a lot of them predict bad stuff, at least according to superstition.
• We as believers must know that nothing that we see is an indicative of a coming event nor we should believe in superstitions that mostly women believe in like passing of that proverbial black cat, sitting of a crow on the roof of the house or attaching a bad women to a bride if someone suddenly dies or there is a loss in the business. 
• As Muslims we must have a firm belief in Allah and whatever comes our way should be taken as a Divine test rather than as a bad omen.  For who knows behind the veil of something bad hides something very rewarding and good for us.
• Cauterizing: 
• Cauterization (or cauterization, or cautery) is a medical practice or technique of burning a part of a body to remove or close off a part of it. We see such practices in some of the Turkish dramas used as a normal method of stopping bloods sustained in battles. In some countries, such practice is still on going.
• It is reported that Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, "There is healing in three: in the cutting of a vein, in cauterizing with fire, and in the application of a cupping glass, but I do not endorse cauterizing." This hadith acknowledges cauterization as a valid method of treatment, but it should be avoided altogether.
• The Holy Prophet allowed this method, but did not encourage it to be used frequently, or it was not preferred by him. In the above hadith, cauterization is also approved but not with fire. 
• Other than cauterization, the Holy Prophet teaches about how to stop bleeding with some traditional remedies. In the battle of Uhud, the Holy Prophet sustained facial wounds and a broken tooth. It is said that ash from a mat of palm leaves that had been burned and inserted into his wounds stopped his bleeding. In this manner, wound bleeding was stopped. Inserting the ash of a burned mat of palm leaves is a method to stop bleeding in Islam. The ashes of burnt palm leaves are very effective in stopping bleeding, because it is a durable drying agent and because it has the slightest burning effect (on the exposed skin). Other robust drying medications have a burning effect on the skin and cause the blood to be disturbed and the bleeding to increase (Al-Jauziyah 2003). According to research in modern science, the healing of wounds in the skin relies on the availability of trace elements or enzymes which increase the structural components in the repair of tissues. Ashes contain all the required elements for the healing of wounds. Ashes also have the combination of metals which are needed to heal wounds quickly (Shaikh and Shaikh 2008).
• Applying black cumin to wounds or utilizing it in other ways is the most effective method for treating wounds. In various hadith, the Holy Prophet emphasized the significance of black cumin and regarded it as the best remedy for almost all diseases, excluding death. Black cumin is the most effective healer, recuperative agent, and immune booster. According to The Holy Prophet of Islam, five or seven black cumin seeds should be crushed and combined with oil. The mixture should then be placed in each nostril (Muhammad b. Isma’il al-Bukhari 2020).

The above explanation of the Hadith shared in this post thus tells to have firm and complete repose in Allah. rather than banking on magical charms or taking inferences from happenings around us. Let our lives me modelled around the Divine teachings given in Qur'an, and Sunnah and Hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, lest we lose the chance of being one of the lucky 70,000 who will enter the paradise without rendering our accounts.

The virtue of reciting Qul-Huwa Allahu Ahad (Surat Al-Ikhlas) - Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Qur'an is the fountainhead of Islam. It comprises of 114 chapters, called Surahs, dealing with varying subjects for the guidance of the mankind.  However, if there is one single chapter or surah which sums up the oneness of Allah, it is Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, Arabic: ٱلإخْلَاص, (also known as the Declaration of God's Unity and al-Tawhid (Arabic: التوحيد, "Monotheism")) which is based on the very basic theme of Islam which revolves around the Oneness of Allah. Although the stress on Oneness of Allah this has been highlighted at many a place in the Qur'an, yet Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, comprising a mere four verses, clearly defines the concept of monotheism, for in Islam there being none equal or comparable to Allah.

The English translation of the  is as follows, which clearly pronounces Oneness of Allah and that Allah neither begets nor is born, nor there is none who can call him equal to Allah:

 

1 Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,

2 Allah, the Eternal Refuge.

3 He neither begets nor is born,

4 Nor is there to Him any equivalent."

Explaining the Surah, renowned Muslim scholar Ibn Kathir (an Arab Islamic exegete born in the 14th century, historian and scholar and expert on tafsir, tarikh and fiqh, who is considered a leading authority on Sunni Islam) says: "When the Jews said, `We worship Uzayr, the son of Allah', and the Christians said, `We worship the Messiah (Isa), the son of Allah', and the Zoroastrians said, `We worship the sun and the moon', and the idolaters said, `We worship idols'. Allah revealed to His Messenger, Say: "He is Allah, One. He is the One, the Singular, Who has no peer, no assistant, no rival, no equal and none comparable to Him." 

Owing to its importance, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has also is quoted to have laid emphasis on the recitation of this surah and immense reward attached to it. This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 66 - Virtues of the Qur'an /  كتاب فضائل القرآن / Chapter 13:  The superiority of Qul-Huwa Allahu Ahad (Surat Al-Ikhlas) (No.112) / باب فَضْلِ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ‏) as Hadith 5013, given herein under:

Narrated by Abu Said Al-Khudri:

A man heard another man reciting (Surat-Al-Ikhlas) 'Say He is Allah, (the) One.' (112. 1) repeatedly. The next morning he came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and informed him about it as if he thought that it was not enough to recite. On that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "By Him in Whose Hand my life is, this Surah is equal to one-third of the Qur'an!"

Arabic Text:

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي صَعْصَعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، سَمِعَ رَجُلاً، يَقْرَأُ ‏{‏قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ‏}‏ يُرَدِّدُهَا فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ جَاءَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ وَكَأَنَّ الرَّجُلَ يَتَقَالُّهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنَّهَا لَتَعْدِلُ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Many scholars have narrated many benefits of reciting Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ. it is believed to be the means of earning Allah's love and attaining paradise. It also banishes poverty and increases sustenance. In addition, the constant recitation of this Surah makes a person worthy of having the archangel Jibraeel participate in his/her funeral prayer.

However, the supreme reason of recitation of Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ remains unflinching resolve of a believer that there is no god but Allah, the Al-Ahad (الاحد)-The One, The Only One, and Al-Wahid (ٱلْوَاحِدُ)-The Manifestation of Unity. Anyone who believes in Oneness of Allah is the most blessed of the entire mankind. And Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ cements one's affirmation to Oneness of Allah. That is why the reward of reciting Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ is equated to recitation of one third of Qur'an. Let us take advantage of the importance of this surah and recite it much too often to bag the reward equivalent to recitation of 1/3rd of the Qur'an.

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door. 

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.
