Etiquettes taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

The Bedouins of Arab peninsula lived a coarse life, devoid of manner and etiquette. Their way of living was generally devoid of mutual respect and honour, especially when it came to different classes of society. Even when in a company, there was rowdyism and complete disregard for the manners of entering, sitting and speaking. Much too often the pagans would barge into the company of people and would start talking loudly with complete disregard for what people were already discussing. Likewise, they would enter the houses of others without knocking and seeking permission to enter.

When Islam started to take its roots, one of the prime tasks of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was teaching manners and etiquette to the Bedouins who were then entering the fold of Islam. The manners and etiquette taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ are still valid and widely adopted, showing their strength and need to enforce quality of social life.

Herein under are some of the etiquettes advised by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as already published by us:
We will continue to develop this page by adding more manners and etiquettes as advised by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ i due course. In the meantime, our readers are requested not only to implement these to them but also advise others so that we improve our mannerism etiquettes both at home and outside.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.
وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

Note: When we mention God in our posts, we mean One True God, we call Allah in Islam, with no associates. Allah is the Sole Creator of all things, and that Allah is all-powerful and all-knowing. Allah has no offspring, no race, no gender, no body, and is unaffected by the characteristics of human life.

Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Reference Page)

Al Qur'an is the fountainhead of Islam. It comprises of Divine Revelations of Allah, which were conveyed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by angel Jibraeel (Gabriel). There are many a commandment that are given in Qur'an but the mode of implementation has been left vague. In fact, the modus operandi of how to do it was personally taught to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by angel Gabriel. Based on these teachings, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ exhibited these to his companions on how to implement these.

These teachings, which also included practical demonstration of how to do a particular form of worship are known as Sunnah (سنة). Sunnah is thus defined as the practices, habits, and traditions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The importance of Sunnah can be gauged from a saying of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ wherein he said: “Whoever turns away from my Sunnah has nothing to do with me.”

Sunnah is often described by scholars of Fiqh (الفقيه), as the recommended acts of worship.” While to a scholar of Usul al-Fiqh (legal theorist), Sunnah is defined as “what was transmitted from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ of his words, acts and implicit.” Thus, Sunnah is the actions and silent approvals of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and thus form the practical aspect of Islam; Hadith are the directives given in the theory.

Note: Please read more about definition of Sunnah and detailed explanation from reference given below at the end of the post.

We have early created a reference page that included the Sunnah, Hadiths and Prophetic Supplications attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. But as the substance is continuously increasing, we thought that surfing through one page for each segment would become cumbersome for our readers. We have already segregated the Supplication attributed Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in a separate reference page. We are now taking the Sunnah portion from our earlier reference page into this reference page exclusive for Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Herein under are the references of our posts attributed to of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ:
We will continue to add more to this reference page to apprise our readers about the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
May Allah (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. Prophetic Supplication to Seek Refuge from All ills (Sunnah Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

The life of prophets has never been easy. On one end, they were busy spreading the words of God and motivating them to come under the fold of Godly cover. And on the other hand, teaching prayers and supplications by giving them very well worded supplications so that the believers could not find them at loss of proper words while making a supplication to invoke the countless mercies of their Creator.

We have been sharing such supplications as Prophet Muhammad ﷺ supplicated so that others could remember and follow. Herein under we share a Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as mentioned in Sahi Muslim Book (Number 48) Pertaining to the Remembrance of Allah, Supplication, Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness ( كتاب الذكر والدعاء والتوبة والاستغفار ) in 18th Chapter: Supplications [of the Prophet (SAW)]

Zaid bin Alqam has been reported as saying (Hadith 2722):
Translation:
Zaid b. Alqam reported: I am not going to say anything but only that which Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) used to say. He used to supplicate:" O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from incapacity, from sloth, from cowardice, from miserliness, decrepitude and from torment of the grave. O Allah, grant to my soul the sense of righteousness and purify it, for Thou art the Best Purifier thereof. Thou art the Protecting Friend thereof, and Guardian thereof. O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the knowledge which does not benefit, from the heart that does not entertain the fear (of Allah), from the soul that does not feel contented and the supplication that is not responded."

What a beautifully worded supplication which is all encompassing from seeking refuge from every possible ills and invoking Allah's mercy for forgiveness. May we recite this supplication everyday so that we are protected from Satanic machinations and remain protected under the cover of our Creator, the one and only God, who has no assistants and no helpers to run this fathomless universe.
We have not been made responsible to make you accept it forcibly, And if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, You will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Three Indications of a hypocrite (Hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Believing in Allah is one thing, acting on His Commandments and Sunnah/Hadith of His revered Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is altogether a different concept. We only recite Qur'an without understanding and very selectively follow Sunnah and Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. That is why we remain far away from guidance that Qur'an provides us and Sunnah and Hadith which elaborate the verses of Qur'an for easy interpretaion.

Many a Muslim, though believers, are often found lacking in traits that are contrary to the teachings of Islam. That means many if not all are hypocrites who deceive people by their apparent piety. When  Prophet Muhammad ﷺ moved to Medinah and formed a coaltion state taking along locals of all faiths, some emraced Islam outwardly just their allegiance remained with the Pagans or the polytheist of Makkah to harm the cause of Islam. And we saw that during the Battle of Trench, many hypocrites left the ranks of Muslims to weaken them.

This has been mentioned in the Qur'an too (سورة آل عمران, Aal-i-Imraan, Chapter #3, Verse #167):
And the hypocrites also. These were told: "Come, fight in the way of Allah, or (at least) drive (The foe from your city)." They said: "Had we known how to fight, we should certainly have followed you." They were that day nearer to Unbelief than to Faith, saying with their lips what was not in their hearts but Allah hath full knowledge of all they conceal.
And as if hypocrites are not vanished altogether. Many believers today are found to fall into this category and because of which they deceive and harm the interest of their brethren, even countries. The  Prophet Muhammad ﷺ thus forewarned his companions to be cautious of people who give out following three indications as narrated by  Abu Huraira:
  1. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie.
  2. Whenever he promises, he always breaks it (his promise ).
  3. If you trust him, he proves to be dishonest. (If you keep something as a trust with him, he will not return it.).
Now in the light of the above quoted hadith that appear in Sahi Bokhari (The Book Of Belief (Faith), Hadith number 33) just look around and try finding out such people and you would e amazed to find many who possess above three traits. Unfortunately, beside others, these traits abound in the politicians who seldom keep their words and break their promises blatantly.

Many in our ranks portray their piety and charitable nature as a show off to others so that they are upheld in high esteem and status in the society. Even they would offer prayers with so much 'devotion' to be noticed by others so that they are taken as being humble and God fearing beleivers. But whatever is displayed to attract others as a show off, Allah knows it well. The following verse says it all:
The hypocrites - they think they are over-reaching Allah, but He will over-reach them: When they stand up to prayer, they stand without earnestness, to be seen of men, but little do they hold Allah in remembrance; (سورة النساء, An-Nisaa, Chapter #4, Verse #142)
So beware of others with these traits and do not let these negative traits creep into our hearts for we unknowingly may be falling into the category of hypocrites.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the  Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others life miserable or unlivable.
We have not been made responsible to make you accept it forcibly, And if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, You will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.
