99 Attributes of Allah: Al Matin - The Firm and Steadfast

Al Qawiyy " ٱلْقَوِيُّ " - The Strong, and Al-Matīn " ٱلْمَتِينُ " (pronounced Al Mateen) - The Firm and Steadfast are two attributes of Allah that come together in the 58th verse of Surah 51. Az-Zariyat meaning almost the same and complementing each other:

اِنَّ اللّٰهَ هُوَ الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الۡقُوَّةِ الۡمَتِيۡنُ‏

Surely Allah is the Bestower of all provision, the Lord of all power, the Strong.

Linguistically, "Al-Qawiyy" is derived from quwwa, meaning strength, power, might or ability. Strength describes a complete and perfect might of Allah - the One Whose strength is unlimited and before Whom the strength of His foe wavers, and so does the greatness of anyone held as great. Al-Matīn is al-Qawiyy, the Strong One, Who can do whatever He pleases, Who does not need an army to enforce His authority.

We have already written a post on this attribute of Allah. So in this post we will concentrate on the attribute Al-Matīn

The word mateen as used in the original means strong and stable, firm and steadfast whom nobody can shake and move. The One with great firmness. His nature is the utmost firmness and steadfastness. The One who can easily overcome anything through supreme firmness and strength of determination.

On the Day of Judgement, Allah will stand Firm on His decisions when it comes to awarding rewards and punishments to those who have done good and bad deeds.  In defense of the Truth, no one can frighten him or silence him. Yet He may show compassion for some of the wrong doers, though no one on that day will be intercede for others.

Related names:
Al-Qawiyy (القوى) - The Inexhaustible Strength
Al-Qahhar (القهار) - The Ever-Dominant, The Prevailer
Al-Muqtadir (المقتدر) - Determiner - the One who uses supreme power to enforce whatever Divine wisdom decrees or decides.
