Description of the Believers of Good Deeds

Qur'an is a book of Divine Guidance for those who read and understands it. The Qur'an spells out the traits of those who will be blessed not only in this world but in the Hereafter. It also warns those who do not abide by the Divine Commandments and care naught for the guidance contained in it. It is those who will be losers both in this world and the Hereafter.

We have many such ayats/verses from Qur'an before. Today we share five verses from the 23rd chapter of Qur'an: Surah 23. Al-Muminun (The Believers) / (verses 57-61) These verses in fact spell out the description of the believers of good deeds:

اِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ مِّنۡ خَشۡيَةِ رَبِّهِمۡ مُّشۡفِقُوۡنَۙ‏ 
(23:57) Surely those who stand in awe for fear of their Lord,
وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ بِاٰيٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَۙ‏
(23:58) who have full faith in the Signs of their Lord;
وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ بِرَبِّهِمۡ لَا يُشۡرِكُوۡنَۙ‏ 
(23:59) who associate none with their Lord in His Divinity,
وَالَّذِيۡنَ يُؤۡتُوۡنَ مَاۤ اٰتَوْا وَّ قُلُوۡبُهُمۡ وَجِلَةٌ اَنَّهُمۡ اِلٰى رَبِّهِمۡ رٰجِعُوۡنَ ۙ‏ 
(23:60) who give, whatever they give in charity, with their hearts trembling at the thought that they are destined to return to their Lord;
اُولٰٓـئِكَ يُسَارِعُوۡنَ فِىۡ الۡخَيۡـرٰتِ وَهُمۡ لَهَا سٰبِقُوۡنَ‏  
(23:61) it is these who hasten to do good work and vie in so doing with one another.

The main theme of Qur'an hinges on proclamation of One True Omnipotent God, without any associates, and True Faith in Him, while honesty and helping others and standing against the tyrants is next. If you just scan over these five verses, all these have been summed up in plain and easy to understand words. Now let us see how eminent Muslim scholars gave interpreted these verses:

Verse 57:
Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi Explanation:
That is, they do not live a carefree life devoid of the fear of God. They live in awe of Him and are fully conscious that He oversees and watches them in all their motives and actions and they are thus deterred from thinking and doing evil.

Tafsir Ibn-Kathir: 
(Verily, those who live in awe for fear of their Lord;) means, even though they have reached the level of Ihsan and have faith and do righteous deeds, they are still in awe of Allah and fear Him and His hidden plans for them, as Al-Hasan Al-Basri said, "The believer combines Ihsan with awe, while the disbelievers combine evil deeds with a sense of security.''

Tafsir Qur'an Wiki:
By contrast, the believers are always on the alert, taking necessary precautions. Here we see how faith affects hearts, imparting to them a special kind of refinement, sensitivity and aspiration to attain perfection. They are the ones who consider the consequences of their actions. They are always ready and willing to do their duties.

Verse 58:
Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi Explanation:
"Signs" here means both Divine Revelations to the Prophets and the signs found in man's own self and in the universe around him. To believe in the verses of the Book is to affirm them, and to believe in the signs of human self and the universe is to affirm the realities which they point to.

Tafsir Qur'an Wiki:
Both its style and theme indicate that it was revealed during the middle stage of Prophethood at Makkah. Reading between the lines one feels that a bitter conflict had begun between the Prophet and the disbelievers of Makkah though the persecution by them had not yet become tyrannical. It appears that the Surah was sent down during the climax of the “Famine” in Makkah (v. 75-76) which according to authentic traditions occurred during the middle stage of Prophethood. Moreover, according to a tradition related by ‘Urwah bin Zubair, Hadarat Umar who had embraced Islam by that time said, ‘This Surah was revealed in my presence and I myself observed the state of the Holy Prophet during its revelation. When the revelation ended the Holy Prophet remarked ‘On this occasion ten such verses have been sent down to me that the one who measures up to them will most surely go to Paradise’. Then he recited the initial verses of the Surah. (Ahmad and Tirmidhi)

Tafsir Ibn-Kathir: 
(And those who believe in the Ayat of their Lord;) means, they believe in His universal and legislative signs, as Allah says about Maryam, peace be upon her: (And she testified to the truth of the Words of her Lord, and His Scriptures) [66:12], meaning that she believed that whatever existed was by the will and decree of Allah, and that whatever Allah decreed, if it was a command, it would be something that He liked and accepted; if it was a prohibition, it would be something that He disliked and rejected; and if it was good, it would be true. 

This is like the Ayah 59: 

Verse 59:
Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi Explanation:
Though belief in the Revelations itself ingrains the doctrine of Tauhid in the hearts, yet the believers have been warned to guard against shirk. This is because, in spite of believing in the Revelations, man is inclined to commit shirk in one form or the other, for instance, in exaggerating the teachings of the Prophets and righteous people, supplicating and serving others than Allah, etc.

Tafsir Ibn-Kathir: 
(And those who join not anyone (in worship) as partners with their Lord;) meaning, they do not worship anyone or anything else besides Him, but they worship Him Alone and know that there is no god except Allah Alone, the One, the Self-Sufficient Master, who does not take a wife or have any offspring, and there is none comparable or equal unto Him.

Verse 60:
Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi Explanation:
This verse (60) may be elaborated like this: "They serve their Lord and try their best to obey Him and do righteous deeds, but all along they remain humble in their hearts and are not puffed up with the pride of their piety: nay, in spite of all their good deeds, their hearts are always filled with awe that they shall have to render an account to their Lord, and they are not sure whether they will come out successful in the judgment of their Lord or not."

Tafsir Ibn-Kathir: 
(And those who give that which they give with their hearts full of fear, because they are sure to return to their Lord.) means, they give to charity, fearing that it may not be accepted by them because of some shortcoming or failure to meet the required conditions of giving. 
This has to do with fear and taking precautions, as Imam Ahmad recorded from `A'ishah: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, (And those who give that which they give with their hearts full of fear...) Are these the ones who steal and commit Zina and drink alcohol while fearing Allah'' 
The Messenger of Allah replied: (No, O daughter of Abu Bakr. O daughter of As-Siddiq, the one who prays, fast and gives in charity, fearing Allah.) This was recorded by At-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Abi Hatim recorded something similar in which the Prophet said: (No, O daughter of As-Siddiq, they are the ones who pray and fast and give in charity while fearing that it will not be accepted from them, (It is these who hasten in the good deeds.)) This is also how Ibn `Abbas, Muhammad bin Ka`b Al-Qurazi and Al-Hasan Al-Basri interpreted this Ayah.
Yusuf Ali Explanation: 
Their hearts are full of reverence for Allah and fear lest their charity or their hearts be not good enough for acceptance before their Lord; for they have the certainty of a future life, in which they will stand before the Judgment Seat. They fear for their own worthiness, but they hope in Faith.

Muhammad Asad Explanation:
This is an allusion to the giving of what one is morally obliged to give, whether it be in charity or in satisfaction of rightful claims on the part of one's fellow-men, including such intangible "gifts" as the dispensing of justice.

Let us be among these good people who believe in One True God and help others for the sake of their Lord.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door. 
وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.

Prophetic Sunnah When hearing the Call of Prayer (Adhan)

Adhan ( أَذَان ), the call for prayer, is made five times a day from all masjids around the world to tell the believers that it is time for Salāt/prayer. Unlike other religions where bells are sounded or horns are blown, the call of prayer is a set of Arabic words pronounced by the Adhan Caller, called the *Mu'adhdhin. And how beautiful words are said to glorify Allah, His revered Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and calling believers to masjid to bow their heads to Allah.
The Mu'adhdhin / muezzin (Arabic: مُؤَذِّن) is the person who proclaims the call to the daily prayer (Salāt) five times a day at a masjid/mosque. The Mu'adhdhin plays an important role in ensuring an accurate prayer schedule for the Muslim community. The first Mu'adhdhin was a former slave Bilal ibn Rabah, one of the most trusted and loyal sahabah (companions) of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.  The call of the Mu'adhdhin is considered an art form, reflected in the melodious chanting of the adhan. In Turkey there is an annual competition to find the country's best muezzin.

It has been the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to reply to each verse of the Adhan when the call of the prayer was being made. The Sunnah is reported in Sahih Muslim (The Book of Prayers - كتاب الصلاة ) as Hadith 385 and attributed to the second caliph of Islam 'Umar b. al-Khattab. It Is Recommended for the One who hears the Mu'adhdhin to Repeat His Words, Then To Send Salat Upon the Prophet (saws) And Ask Allah to Grant Him Al-Wasilah

'Umar b. al-Khattab has been reported as saying that:

حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَهْضَمٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ غَزِيَّةَ، عَنْ خُبَيْبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسَافٍ، عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ إِذَا قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ أَحَدُكُمُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ حَىَّ عَلَى الصَّلاَةِ ‏.‏ قَالَ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ حَىَّ عَلَى الْفَلاَحِ ‏.‏ قَالَ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ‏.‏ قَالَ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ ‏.‏ قَالَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ ‏.‏ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: When the Mu'adhdhin says: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest (اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ), and one of you should make this response: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest (اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ); (and when the Mu'adhdhin) says: I testify that there is no god but Allah ( أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ), one should respond: I testify that there is no god but Allah ( أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ), and when he says: I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah ( أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ), one should make a response: I testify that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger ( أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ). When he (the Mu'adhdhin) says: Come to prayer (حَىَّ عَلَى الصَّلاَةِ), one should make a response (اَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّ): There is no might and no power except with Allah. When he (the Mu'adhdhin) says: Come to salvation (حَىَّ عَلَى الْفَلاَحِ), one should respond (اَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّ): There is no might and no power except with Allah, and when he (the Mu'adhdhin) says: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest (اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ), then make a response: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest (اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ). When he (the Mu'adhdhin) says: There is no god but Allah, a (لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ) nd he who makes a response from the heart: There is no god but Allah, he will enter Paradise ( لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ ‏.‏ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ).

We should also respond to the call of the prayer as has been Sunnah of the revered Prophet of Allah.  It has also been reported in Sahih al-Bukhari (Call to Prayers (Adhaan) - كتاب الأذان ) / Hadith 614, wherein Jabir bin `Abdullah has been reported as saying:

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلاَةِ الْقَائِمَةِ آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الْوَسِيلَةَ وَالْفَضِيلَةَ وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ، حَلَّتْ لَهُ شَفَاعَتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whoever after listening to the Adhan says, 'Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-dda` watit-tammah, was-salatil qa'imah, ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wal-fadilah, wa b`ath-hu maqaman mahmudan-il-ladhi wa`adtahu' [O Allah! Lord of this perfect call (perfect by not ascribing partners to You) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established, give Muhammad the right of intercession and illustriousness, and resurrect him to the best and the highest place in Paradise that You promised him (of)], then my intercession for him will be allowed on the Day of Resurrection".

Don't ask for repayment for favours

No two men are born equal: Be it health, wealth or appearance. Those who are poor and cannot meet their two ends meet, are always dependent on those who have plenty and extra of their needs. Islam has instituted the concept of obligatory charity (Zakat) and voluntary charity like alms to help the Have NOTs so that could live honurably. However, those who are at the giving end should never boast of helping others or even expecting or even asking for repayment in kind or favour for the help meted out to the poor.

This exactly is the subject matter of 9th verse of (Sūrah 76. Al Insan (Man), also known as Ad Dahr (Time), which have chosen for our series of posts on Important DOs and DON'Ts from Qur'an. However, these words need not be actually uttered. They express the true motives of pious and unpretentious Charity.:

اِنَّمَا نُطۡعِمُكُمۡ لِـوَجۡهِ اللّٰهِ لَا نُرِيۡدُ مِنۡكُمۡ جَزَآءً وَّلَا شُكُوۡرًا‏ 
(76:9) (Saying) "We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: No reward do we desire from you nor thanks.
Although feeding a poor man is in itself a great virtue, yet fulfilling the other needs of an indigent person is no less virtuous. For example, to clothe a poor man, to arrange treatment for a sick person, or to help a debtor who is harassed by his creditor, is an act of equally great virtue. Here, a particular kind of virtue in view of its importance has been presented only as an example, but the real object is to stress giving help to the needy. 

It is not necessary that this may be said in so many words while feeding the poor man. It may be said in the heart; in the sight of Allah this is as meritorious as saying it with the tongue. But saying these words with the tongue has been particularly mentioned so as to set the person being helped at ease that no thanks or recompense is due from him, so that he eats with full satisfaction and peace of mind. 

Tafsir Ibn-Kathir
(We feed you seeking Allah's Face only.) meaning, hoping for the reward of Allah and His pleasure.

(We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you.) meaning, `we do not seek any reward from you in return for it. We also are not seeking for you to thank us in front of the people.' Mujahid and Sa`id bin Jubayr both said, "By Allah! They do not say this with their tongues, but rather, Allah knows it in their hearts and He commends them for it. Every seeker should seek after this.'

Tafsir Qur'an Wiki:
Giving food to the needy in such a direct manner was at the time the proper expression of these people's own compassion and the most needed type of help. Ways and forms of charity may be completely different in other circumstances and social environments. What is important is the need to maintain such compassion towards others and the desire to do good only for God's sake, looking for no earthly recognition or reward.

Javed Ahmad Ghamidi Explanation:
The implication is that apart from the mandatory directives of the sharī‘ah, even acts of virtue which they make obligatory on themselves out of their own free will are carried out by them in a very thorough manner.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.

An effort has been made to gather explanation / exegesis of the surahs of the Qur'ān from authentic sources and then present a least possible condensed explanation of the surah. In that the exegesis of the chapters of the Quran is mainly based on the "Tafhim al-Qur'an - The Meaning of the Qur'an" by one of the most enlightened scholars of the Muslim World Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi.  
In order to augment and add more explanation as already provided, additional input has been interjected from the following sources:

When to wait for the Hour (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

The wrath of Allah does not fall on people who obey Him and His Commandments as contained in the Divine Books and sayings of His prophets. And when the wrath does come, most people wonder what was their fault and lament. But those few who had found wisdom in the words of God know that what has come to them was due to their own faults and follies which they ignored and thought small things would not matter.

Today we share an eye-opening saying/hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which warns the man to be watchful for the final hour to come if they had stopped telling the truth and find unfit and incompetent people in power corridors. The Hadith has been mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (Book (#3) of Knowledge - كتاب العلم / Chapter#2: Whoever is asked about knowledge while he is busy in some conversation, so he finished talking and then answered the questioner): Hadith 59:

Narrated by Abu Huraira:

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ، ح وَحَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُلَيْحٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ، حَدَّثَنِي هِلاَلُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ بَيْنَمَا النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي مَجْلِسٍ يُحَدِّثُ الْقَوْمَ جَاءَهُ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ مَتَى السَّاعَةُ فَمَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُحَدِّثُ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ سَمِعَ مَا قَالَ، فَكَرِهَ مَا قَالَ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ بَلْ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ، حَتَّى إِذَا قَضَى حَدِيثَهُ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَيْنَ ـ أُرَاهُ ـ السَّائِلُ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ هَا أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ فَإِذَا ضُيِّعَتِ الأَمَانَةُ فَانْتَظِرِ السَّاعَةَ ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ كَيْفَ إِضَاعَتُهَا قَالَ ‏"‏ إِذَا وُسِّدَ الأَمْرُ إِلَى غَيْرِ أَهْلِهِ فَانْتَظِرِ السَّاعَةَ ‏"‏‏.‏

While the Prophet (ﷺ) was saying something in a gathering, a Bedouin came and asked him, "When would the Hour (Doomsday) take place?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) continued his talk, so some people said that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had heard the question, but did not like what that Bedouin had asked. Some of them said that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had not heard it. When the Prophet (ﷺ) finished his speech, he said, "Where is the questioner, who inquired about the Hour (Doomsday)?" The Bedouin said, "I am here, O Allah's Apostle." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday)." The Bedouin said, "How will that be lost?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "When the power or authority comes in the hands of unfit persons, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday.)"

Are we watching ourselves, our surroundings and even our own conduct? If lying has become our usual code of conduct and honesty has faded away, we will have incompetent and unfit people assuming power and authority. May Allah save us of that day for we will to be answerable for not adhering to honesty and the truth.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.  
وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible to make you accept it forcibly, And if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, You will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

Bring your heart back to life with the Qur'an

Life is not meant to be stagnant - one has to move on no matter how good or bad times one may be having. For if one becomes stagnant in ideas, perceptions, preferred choice of means of sustenance or even choice of a role modelled spouce, one may end up in rejections and results of not one's liking. Life has its own dynamics as conceived by our Creator and one cannot have many choices left. 

Life, like water, is dynamic and vibrant. Like water, which if it remains stagnant, will become foul smelling and distasteful. So, we do not let the water store over a long period of time. We let it flow so that fresh water replaces the rusty water and that is how life thrives both within, that is marine life, and without, that is humans, animals, birds and plants,

And if one's heart is hollow and there is no inclination to the Creator Who in fact controls everything in the entire universe, one may soon lose the perception and meaning of the life. Those whose hearts move with the Qur'an are never fearful of future, nor do they recall their yesterdays to haunt their lives forever. In fact, sometimes the pain that we are going through is a sign that life is stagnant and we need to step up to our better version. Sometimes the suffering hides behind it the abundance we thought we would never receive. Sometimes life challenges us so that you can transform. So let us move forward, always and except for repenting past deeds, let these deeds or should we call misdeeds haunt us all our lives. And keep Qur'an as our beacon to enlighten our hearts and tomorrows.

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is our duty to convey only to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and help us to act upon the commandments of Allah contained therein. Prophetic Supplication for Protection against Straits of the World and the Hereafter

Today we share yet another Prophetic Supplication attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for protection against the straits of this world and the Hereafter. This supplication has been mentioned in Sunan Abi Dawud (Book of General Behavior (Kitab Al-Adab) - كتاب الأدب ): Hadith 5085 [Grade: Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)/حسن صحيح :  (الألباني) حكم)]:  

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin:

حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ جُعْثُمٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الأَزْهَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَرَازِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي شَرِيقٌ الْهَوْزَنِيُّ، قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ رضى الله عنها فَسَأَلْتُهَا بِمَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَفْتَتِحُ إِذَا هَبَّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَتْ لَقَدْ سَأَلْتَنِي عَنْ شَىْءٍ مَا سَأَلَنِي عَنْهُ أَحَدٌ قَبْلَكَ كَانَ إِذَا هَبَّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ كَبَّرَ عَشْرًا وَحَمِدَ عَشْرًا وَقَالَ ‏"‏ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ عَشْرًا وَقَالَ ‏"‏ سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ عَشْرًا وَاسْتَغْفَرَ عَشْرًا وَهَلَّلَ عَشْرًا ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏"‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ ضِيقِ الدُّنْيَا وَضِيقِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ عَشْرًا ثُمَّ يَفْتَتِحُ الصَّلاَةَ ‏.‏

Shariq al-Hawzani and I came to Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) and asked her: By which (prayer) the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began when he woke up at night? She replied: You asked me about a thing which no one asked me before. When he woke up at night, he uttered: "Allah is Most Great" ten times, and uttered "Praise be to Allah" ten times, and said "Glory be to Allah and I begin with His praise" ten times, and said: "Glory be to the King, the Most Holy" ten times, and asked Allah's pardon ten times, and said: "There is no god but Allah" ten times, and then said: "O Allah! I seek refuge in Thee from the strait of this world and the Day of resurrection," ten times. He then began the prayer.

The above quoted supplication is one of the best formats to supplicate. As can be seen, the Prophet of Allah would begin addressing Allah with His many attributes, as have been highlighted in bold black above. He would repeat every Godly attribute ten times. And thereafter he would make a supplication, in this case the following:

"‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ ضِيقِ الدُّنْيَا وَضِيقِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏"
"O Allah! I seek refuge in Thee from the strait of this world and the Day of resurrection,"

As can be noted he repeated every attribute and the supplication 10 times and would then begin his prayers. We should also begin our prayers by first appreciating our Creator by His many attributes to invoke His infinite mercy and then make the supplication.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.

Lust of Man for Money is Endless (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Earning money is the right of everyman for his sustenance and that of his family. Man has been tilling lands, doing trade and business from time immemorial. The legitimate earning of money is never objected to in societies and communities. However, it is the illegitimate amassing of money that is always looked down upon for man can go to any extent to satisfy his needs to have more. 

The illegitimate gathering of money, not authorized by the law; not in accordance with accepted standards or rules, creates many ills in society and deprives means of sustenance of those who want to make ends meet the right way. Men amassing money are usually evil minded, criminals and heartless and with no fear of God and the end day when every man will be asked for his acts and those failing will be prosecuted severely.

Prophet of Allah has always forbidden man to go for illegitimate means of money and to harness his lust for more while depriving others of the any means to earn rightfully. Ibn `Abbas has been quoted in Sahih al-Bukhari (To make the Heart Tender (Ar-Riqaq) - كتاب الرقاق ) : Hadith 6436 mentioning what he heard from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: 

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ لَوْ كَانَ لاِبْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَانِ مِنْ مَالٍ لاَبْتَغَى ثَالِثًا، وَلاَ يَمْلأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلاَّ التُّرَابُ، وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ ‏"‏‏.‏

 Ibn `Abbas says: I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, "If the son of Adam (the human being) had two valleys of money, he would wish for a third, for nothing can fill the belly of Adam's son except dust, and Allah forgives him who repents to Him."

The above quoted Hadith shows that only dust can fill the lust of man if his lust continues to be unsatisfied. It is a shame that many a man are pursuant of illegitimate money today, even the Muslims and they forget about the consequences of illegitimately amassed money. But those who one day realize that they have wronged themselves and society, surrender the ill-gotten money, may hope to be forgiven and their repentance accepted. May Allah help us to be the rightful earner of our livelihood and be contented with whatever is earned, no matter how meager, for rightfully earned money brings more blessings and peace of mind.
