Our Lord, Allah is the most forgiving and merciful, for He has created us and loves us like no else can. The entire universe has been laid out for us, filled with every kind of blessing for us to enjoy and thus be thankful to Him for taking very good care of us. This has been so since the beginning and will continue till the very end when we will be paraded before Him on the Day of Resurrection and presented our dossiers.
Those who remained faithful to Allah in the earthly world will be the choicest people on that day. Yet there will be a large crowd whom Allah will befall very heavily and will tell them that as they had forgotten him in their lives in the world, so will He forget them on that fateful day. Who will be those wretched people?
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in one of his hadiths tells us. This Hadith is mentioned Jami` at-Tirmidhi (Book # 37 Chapters on the description of the Day of Judgement, Ar-Riqaq, and Al-Wara'
كتاب صفة القيامة والرقائق والورع عن رسول الله صلى الله / Chapter # 6 The Lord's Questioning of His Servant About What He Granted Him in the World باب مِنْهُ ) as Hadith number # 2428:
Abu Salih reported from Abu Hurairah and Abu Sa'eed that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:
"The servant will be brought on the Day of Judgement, and He will say to him: 'Did I not give you hearing, sight, wealth, children, and did I not make the cattle and tillage subservient to you, and did I not leave you as the head of people taking from their wealth? Did you not think that you would have to meet with Me on this Day of yours?' So, he will say: 'No.' So, it will be said to him: 'Today you shall be forgotten just as you have forgotten Me.'"
[Abü 'Elsa said:] This Hadith is Sahih Gharib and the meaning of His saying: "Today you shall be forgotten just as you have forgotten Me" is: Today I shall leave you in chastisement. [This is how they have explained it]. [Abu 'Eisa said:] This is how some of the people of knowledge have explained this Ayah: So, this Day We shall forget them...They said that it means: We shall leave them in chastisement.
Grade: Sahih (Darussalam)
This Hadith embodies in itself a stern warning for all those who forget to thank, or even to acknowledge the blessings of their Lord while in their earthly world and walk the ways of thanklessness. They act in complete tangent to the path prescribed for them in the Divine Scriptures and rubbish the call of the messengers that came to them and asked them to be thankful to their Lord for His blessings on to them. Many today, especially the atheists, find it much too easy to ignore the blessings they enjoy and even question the existence of a Divine Beings that has made all this to happen for their pleasure. Life is too short for a day would come when they would realize that all that was told to them was true and will have no time or excuse to feel remorse of their in-attitude. The day when they will be forgotten by the Lord and thrown into the blazing fire of hell.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.
May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.
Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.
Note: When we mention God in our posts, we mean One True God, we call Allah in Islam, with no associates. Allah is the Sole Creator of all things, and that Allah is all-powerful and all-knowing. Allah has no offspring, no race, no gender, no body, and is unaffected by the characteristics of human life.
