We have recently concluded publishing two posts on the exegesis / tafsir of Sūrah Al Waq'ia (56th Chapter of Qur'an) based on interpretation of the Sūrah by prominent scholars and exegetists of the Qur'an. Earlier we had also published the tafsir of Sūrah Ar Rahman the 55th Chapter of the Qur'an. We have also just yesterday shared a post on Understanding the Surah Ar Rahman.
All Muslims must have read these two Sūrahs umpteen number of times. But have you ever pondered the stunning similarities between the themes of two Sūrahs? well I am also one of those who didn't know the relationship and similarity of theme of the two connected Sūrahs till I listened to a lecture by prominent Muslim scholar and teacher Nouman Ali Khan today.
And today I know that the main theme of Sūrah Ar Rahman revolves around five main subjects, namely:
~ 1. The Great of Qur’an – " عَلَّمَ الۡقُرۡاٰنَؕ " Allamal Qur’an
~ 2. Allah’s Creation – " اَلشَّمۡسُ وَالۡقَمَرُ " Ash shamsu wal qamaru
~ 3. The Criminals who will end up in hell fire on the Day of Judgement
~ 4. A beautiful Jannah for a group of people
~ 5. A much better Jannah for the most elevated Muslims
And interestingly the same five theme topics are discussed in Sūrah Al Waq'ia, though in the reversed order:
~ 1. As sabiqoon – " وَالسّٰبِقُوۡنَ السّٰبِقُوۡنَۚ "The forerunners - who will be accommodated in the highest of Jannah / Paradise
~ 2. Ashabul Yameen " اَصۡحٰبُ الۡيَمِيۡنِؕ " – People of the Right Hand (got book of deeds in their R.H)
~ 3. Ashabul shimaal – " لِّاَصۡحٰبِ الۡيَمِيۡنِؕ " People of the Left Hand (got book of deeds in their L.H)
~ 4. Allah’s Creation – A list of things that only Allah can do and we cannot do – “germination of seeds”,”rain”, etc,.
~ 5. The Greatness of Qur’an – Entire passage (the third ruku) dedicated to describing greatness of qur’an in the end of Sūrah Al Waq'ia.
This is how Allah connects various chapters of Qur'an and constantly reminds the believers to pay attention to His Divine Commandments so as not to be penalized on the Day of Judgment - rather be among the blessed.
