Man complains why is he being restricted from doing things that others are doing - Allah tells why

It is generally complained, even the believers, that why are the being restricted from doing things which the majority is doing. Such complaints often arise when a man is living in a society where drinking, eating pork or even uncontrolled marital relations is rampart. When a man sees such happenings around him being performed in abundance, it is human nature to question why it is not allowed for him due to religious obligations.

This is because the majority of people follow the ways of the masses. Their decisions are not based on any reasoning or knowledge. If we go by the majority, the attendance in every crowd and mob can be justified for being part of the majority, which otherwise ethically is incorrect. Likewise, in most part of the world, specially the Western world, illegitimate sex is widespread. Most of the teen agers lose their chastity before reaching the age of 18. But this should be the reason for Muslims to lament that while all others are enjoying free sex, why I am not allowed to do it.

Likewise, there are many a restriction placed on believers, yet there is a Divine reason for each restriction, like Halal and Haram, lies and truth, evil and good. In this backdrop, let us 116th verse of Surah 6. Al-An'am:

(6:116) (O Muhammad!) If you obey the majority of those who live on earth, they will lead you away from Allah's path. They only follow idle fancies, indulging in conjecture.

The right thing for a seeker-after-truth is not to consider what way the majority of the people are following because that is based on guess-work instead of knowledge. Their beliefs, theories, philosophies, principles of life and laws are the result of guess-work and are, therefore, sure to mislead. In contrast to that, the way of life with which Allah is pleased, can only be the Way which Allah Himself has taught. Therefore, the seeker-after-truth should adopt that way and steadfastly follow it, even though he is left alone on it.

Qur'an Wiki Explanation:
Having stated that the truth is simply what is contained in the Book revealed by God, the surah states that what human beings legislate is the result of following conjecture which is devoid of all certainty. To follow it leads to one clear outcome: error. It also explains that human beings cannot be certain of the truth and cannot follow it unless they receive it from its only source. The surah also warns God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) against obeying people in what they say or advocate, no matter how great their number may be. Ignorance remains the same even though it gathers a very large following:

At the time when the Qur’an was revealed, most people on earth belonged to the world of jahiliyyah, as is certainly the case today. They did not refer to God for judgement in all their affairs. Nor did they make the divine law contained in His revealed Book the law which they implemented. Nor did they derive their concepts, ideas, thoughts and code of living from God’s guidance. Hence, they followed the way of ignorance, as they certainly do today. They could not formulate any opinion or advocate any ruling based on the truth, and they could not lead anyone who followed them except into error. Just as people do today, they abandoned certitude in order to follow conjecture and guesswork. Hence, God warns His Messenger and his followers against obeying them so that they do not stray from His path. This warning has a general import, although it is given in connection with the prohibition of certain types of slaughtered animals and permitting others, as is later explained.

Summary:
In view of the above explanations / Tafsir, one need not follow the way of life of the majority, for the majority tend to follow their conjectures and fancies rather than sound knowledge. Their beliefs, their ideas and concepts, their philosophies of life, the guiding principles of their conduct, their laws - all these are founded on conjecture. On the contrary, the way of life which pleases God, was revealed by Him and hence is based on true knowledge rather than conjecture. Instead of trying to discover the way of life of the majority, a seeker after truth should, therefore, persevere in the way prescribed by God, even if he finds himself to be a solitary traveler.

Reward of remembering Allah much (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

There can be no greater desire of a believer than remembering his Creator as much as he can and thanking Him for the countless blessings bestowed upon him, even when he did not deserved so. While Allah continue to be merciful and benevolent to His servants, He also wants that His servants should remember Him so that He remembers them.

"So remember Me and I shall remember you; give thanks to Me and do not be ungrateful to Me for My favours." (Surah 2 Al Baqarah:152)

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has always stressed on his companions to remember Allah by reciting Qur'an as much as one can, remember Allah by His beautiful 99 Attributes and keep thanking Him so that He gives you more.

This Hadith is quoted in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: Book 48 The Book Pertaining to the Remembrance of Allah, Supplication, Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness - كتاب الذكر والدعاء والتوبة والاستغفار / Chapter 1 Encouragement To Remember Allah, Exalted is He / باب  الْحَثِّ عَلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى ‏‏ / as Hadith number # 2676 as under:

Abu Huraira reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was travelling along the path leading to Mecca that he happened to pass by a mountain called Jumdan. He said:

"Proceed on, it is Jumdan, Mufarradun have gone ahead." They (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) said: Allah's Messenger, who are Mufarradun? He said: "They are those males and females who remember Allah much."

We should make it a habit to continue remembering Allah in everything we do so that our Master is pleased with us and count us in as one of the Mufarradun.

Commit yourself to Qur’an - Lest it breaks away from you (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Qur'an enshrines the literal word of God which was revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by the Archangel Gabriel. Qur'an is not only unique in its composition and style, it is also the pre-eminent literary masterpiece of the Arabic language and one of the earliest extant Arabic literary sources.

Qur'an is the last of the earlier three Divine scriptures, that is Psalms, Torah and Injeel (Bible) and for this reason it remains unadulterated till date for it is serve as a guidance to the entire humanity. And it is for this reason, Allah promised that the Qur'an will be preserved as it is not time-bound and is for all of humanity till the end of times.

Unlike earlier three Divine scriptures, Qur'an is the only scripture which is remembered by heart by millions of Muslims around the world. Even children as small as three years are said to have remembered it by heart.

Abdul-Rahman Farih is the youngest person on the planet who has learned the entire Quran by heart. The Algerian kid started memorizing the Quran at age 2 when he had just learned to talk, belatedly. It took him one year to memorize the entire Holy Book. [Read more]

Scroll down to watch the video of the Abdul Rahman Farih

It is the love of Qur'an by the Muslims that they encourage their children to remember Qur'an by heart so that Qur'an remains preserved even if all copies of Qur'an are burnt (as many a attempt has been made to set Qur'an on fire). This is how Allah protects His last divine scripture. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has also emphasised the need to recite Qur'an much too often for if it is not recited regularly, it is likely to be forgotten.

This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 66 Virtues of the Qur'an /  كتاب فضائل القرآن / Chapter 23:  The learning of the Qur'an by heart and the reciting of it repeatedly / باب اسْتِذْكَارِ الْقُرْآنِ وَتَعَاهُدِهِ) as Hadith 5033, given herein under:

Narrated by Abu Musa: The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"Commit yourself to the Qur'an, for by Him in whose Hand is my soul, it is surely more prone to break away than a camel in its bind."

Although almost all Muslims have remembered selected chapters from Qur'an by heart, but if these are not regularly recited like for reciting during the daily prayers / As Salat, one is liable to forget these. We must therefore always make an endeavour to try to add more chapters to our memory and continue to recite them much too often so that these do not break away from our memory with the speed of camel ii is let loose from its ropes.

You may now like to watch a video of Abdul-Rahman Farih reciting Qur'an at the age of three:

Prophetic Supplication after As Salat (Supplications attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Believers often ponder over what is the difference between a prayer (as salat) and a supplication. Although prayer and supplication are different but connected aspects of spiritual devotion. Prayer is a wider way of connecting with the divine, while supplication involves making passionate, specific requests during times of deep need or desire.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in addition to offering obligator As Salat would make passionate pleading to Allah for his own forgiveness and that of his Ummah. When we read the prophetic supplications attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, we find a wide range of supplications both for general and exclusive times. Today we share yet another a supplication which the revered Prophet ﷺ of Allah used to make after finishing his Salat.

This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 82 Divine Will (Al-Qadar) /  كتاب  القدر / Chapter 12 No power can withhold what Allah gives / باب لاَ مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَى اللَّهُ) as Hadith 6615, given herein under:

Narrated by Warrad: (the freed slave of Al-Mughira bin Shu`ba) Muawiya wrote to Mughira. 'Write to me what you heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying after his prayer.' So Al-Mughira dictated to me and said:

"I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying after the prayer, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone Who has no partner. O Allah! No-one can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and the fortune of a man of means is useless before You (i.e., only good deeds are of value).

Protect children from devils when night falls (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

When I was a small kid, my father would never let us out after the nightfall or just before the Adhan for the Maghrib prayer (the evening prayer). And our doors used to be locked. Also no one visited others after the evening, for everyone knew the Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which forbids parents not to let their children out for evening time is the devils' time. For evil eyes are everywhere tracking the weak and meek and overpower them with their evil.

This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 59 Beginning of Creation /  كتاب  بدء الخلق / Chapter 15 The best property of a Muslim will be sheep / باب خَيْرُ مَالِ الْمُسْلِمِ غَنَمٌ يَتْبَعُ بِهَا شَعَفَ الْجِبَالِ ) as Hadith 3304, given herein under:

Narrated by Jabir bin `Abdullah:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "When night falls (or it is evening), keep your children close to you for the devils spread out at that time. But when an hour of the night elapses, you can let them free. Close the doors and mention the Name of Allah, for Satan does not open a closed door."

Times have changed and we no longer adhere to the warnings and cautions of our elders, specially that of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. These days even small kids are let out and loiter around, oblivious of the evil eyes and devils' spell. The culture of whatever we learn from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as adopted by our parents need to be revived and every effort be made to protect our children from the evil.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. Let the listeners of Adhan be witness for the caller on the Day of Resurrection (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Adhan is the prerequisite for offering prayer. The Adhan is the call to prayer, usually recited by a muezzin at five times of the day in a masjid, traditionally from a minaret. Although, todays the loudspeakers have replaced the mode of communication of the Adhan to the believers to come to the masjid for the prayer, As Salat, yet at many smaller places it is recited out without the aid of an electronic means of communication.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has been quoted as telling his companions about the reward of the Adhan caller, called muezzin.  This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 10 Call to Prayers (Adhaan) /  كتاب  الأذان / Chapter-5 Raising the voice in pronouncing the Adhan / باب رَفْعِ الصَّوْتِ بِالنِّدَاءِ) as Hadith 609, given herein under:

Narrated by `Abdur-Rahman:
Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri told my father, "I see you liking sheep and the wilderness. So whenever you are with your sheep or in the wilderness and you want to pronounce Adhan for the prayer raise your voice in doing so, for whoever hears the Adhan, whether a human being, a jinn or any other creature, will be a witness for you on the Day of Resurrection."

Abu Sa`id added, "I heard it (this narration) from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)."

The above said Hadith assures reward for the calling the Adhan, specially when one is in the wilderness, where other than men in the area, the jinns, animals and all other living creatures,  who will bear witness in favour of the Adhan caller and he would be thus adequately rewarded.

However, this does not mean that where loudspeakers are used, the volume is opened to its fullest level so that the Adhan reaches many many people of the vicinity. The too high volume may become a discomfort for the elderly and the sick. Let the Adhan be heard in the local community and not the other communities where such arrangements also exist.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

Note: When we mention God in our posts, we mean One True God, we call Allah in Islam, with no associates. Allah is the Sole Creator of all things, and that Allah is all-powerful and all-knowing. A dream tells me to be a Muslim (Revert Experiences)

Each revert experience is unique and mind boggling. We have shared many such experiences before, but the one being shared is different from others. It is the revert experience of Ganiyat Solöye, a Nigerian woman, who saw a dream in which she is been told to be a Muslim.

Ganiyat Solöye, born to a Christian father and a Muslim mother, was always at crossroads as to which religion she should finally adopt.  Such difficult decision making usually erupts when a Muslim woman marries a a Christian. This is something which Qur'an cautions against. While Muslim men may marry a girl from the people of Book, that is Jews or Christians, but women cannot marry a man of any other faith. This is necessary that children normally adopt the faith of their fathers and a Muslim man is in a better position to raise his children in Islam.

Here was exactly the case: The father wanted his children to be Christians, while faith of the mother also influenced her children. Ganiyat Solöye accompanied her father to church and read Bible. But she also went to masjid along with her mother for Islam also attracted her for she found many odd things in Bible like Jesus being son of God or even god himself, or even her father changing another version of Bible from the one previously he gave her.

And then a dream made her take the ultimate decision of her life to become a Muslim. Please watch the full video of a revert experience below of how Ganiyat Solöye , a Nigerian woman converted to Islam:
The above said revert experience and many more as already shared in our reference page: Embracing Islam: Revert Experiences are simple amazing as how odds and dichotomy in one's previous beliefs and faith ultimately lead them to Islam. May Allah help those still mulling over to cross over to Islam and show them His light of eternal salvation. Ameen
May Allah (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us have unflinching faith and trust in Divine Wisdom and decisions and should never lament for we do not know that something better has been planned for us by our most caring Lord. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.

The Most Liked and Hated Places in the sight of Allah (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Places where one spends his most of the time has a deep impacting impression on his personality, thinking, personal dealings and even faith. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in one of his Hadiths has mentioned two places, one of which is most liked by Allah, and the other most hated.

This Hadith is quoted in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: Book 5 The Book of Mosques and Places of Prayer - كتاب الْمَسَاجِدِ وَمَوَاضِعِ الصَّلاَةِ / Chapter 52 The virtue of sitting in one’s prayer place after Subh, and the virtue of the masajid / باب فَضْلِ الْجُلُوسِ فِي مُصَلاَّهُ بَعْدَ الصُّبْحِ وَفَضْلِ الْمَسَاجِدِ ‏‏ / as Hadith number # 671 as under:

Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The parts of land dearest to Allah are its masjids, and the parts most hateful to Allah are markets.

That is one whose orientation remains towards Allah and the one who finds solace and tranquility in a place is the places of Allah, that is the masjids (mosques). Here a man of faith falls in prostration in front of Allah in total humility and submission, and knows his act of prostration will be accepted and rewarded. Even otherwise, in addition to offering five daily prayers, a believer interacts with others, which adds to the solidifying the bondage of brotherhood. Masjid is also a place where one learns about the religion, engaging in remembrance of Allah by using many attributes of Allah, alone or with a group. Such actions are most liked by Allah and rewards His servants profusely and in abundance.

As for the market places, where most of us tend to spend our most of the time to attend to our business or seek any form work or job, are places infested with the Devil and his aids. Thus it is generally seen that business deals are based on deceit and deception to hoodwink the customers and to attain undue profits.

Imaam an-Nawawee رحمه الله said in its explanation: “That is because Masaajid are the houses of obedience and bases of Taqwā whereas markets are a place of deception, treachery, interest (Ribā), lies, broken promises and turning away from the Remembrance of Allāh.”

We must, our dear brothers and sisters, spend least time in the marketplaces and rush to masjids to remember Allah. This does not mean that one should not do business and remain busy in worship of Allah. This hadith tells us to lay down priorities and even when we are doing business or job, our intentions should be honest, clear of any deceit and deception, and even if we have to lose for the sake of honesty, we should not indulge in negativities. For Allah compensates those who remember Him much and are honest in their dealings.
May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.

We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Do not forget to honour rights of others while observing As Saum (Fasting) other than in month of Ramadan

Fasting in the month of Ramadan is Divinely ordained on every adult and health Muslim, man and woman. Other than these obligatory fasts / As Saum, one can keep fast any time throughout the year, except the two Eids.

However, it is often seen that many observe fasts more than what is needed, something that was even observed by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in his days when newly reverted Muslims thought it would earn them more blessings of Allah. In this regard we share a Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in which he lays down the criteria for the non obligatory fasts so that rights of others, even the right of a man's body are not compromised or over looked.

This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 30 Fasting /  كتاب الصوم / Chapter 55:  The right of the body in observing As-Saum. / باب حَقِّ الْجِسْمِ فِي الصَّوْمِ) as Hadith 1975, given herein under:

Narrated by `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, "O `Abdullah! Have I not been informed that you fast during the day and offer prayers all the night." `Abdullah replied, "Yes, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Don't do that; fast for few days and then give it up for few days, offer prayers and also sleep at night, as your body has a right on you, and your wife has a right on you, and your guest has a right on you. And it is sufficient for you to fast three days in a month, as the reward of a good deed is multiplied ten times, so it will be like fasting throughout the year." I insisted (on fasting) and so I was given a hard instruction. I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have power." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Fast like the fasting of the Prophet (ﷺ) David and do not fast more than that." I said, "How was the fasting of the Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah, David?" He said, "Half of the year," (i.e. he used to fast on every alternate day). Afterwards when `Abdullah became old, he used to say, "It would have been better for me if I had accepted the permission of the Prophet (which he gave me i.e. to fast only three days a month).

The Hadith above clearly shows that while fasting other than the month of Ramadan, one has to be mindful of the strength of one's body to endure the rigours of fasting if these are done beyond a limit. Also while a man chooses to fasts for longer durations, he compromises the rights of one's spouse on him and others around. Let us not over do things to bag more blessings than others by indulging in worship that robs the rights of others on us. Let us follow a medium path in our worship, otherwise it will displease others which is least liked by Allah.
