How can you secure immense reward with your Lord

Islam is a unique religion, unique in a sense that even small good actions carry great rewards for man both in this world, and the world of the Hereafter. The question someone may ask is how we can bag these rewards. The answer lies in caring for others. No two men are born equal, rather a majority of people around the world have barely enough means of sustenance to live a healthy life. It is here the occasion that arises for those who have extra than their needs to help others by way of charity.

In fact, charity softens one's heart, creates a feeling of love and care for those who find it difficult to make their two ends meet. It also induces humility in a believer and a great feeling of thankfulness for having been blessed with a heart wherein resides fear of Allah and love for humanity.

While obligatory charity (Zakat) is to be paid by all those who come under the ambit of Zakat, voluntary charity can be as small as a piece of date or even a smile. Those who willingly doll out charity solely for the pleasure of Allah have been promised great rewards. This promise has been made at numerous places in Qur'an and we have already shared these verses in our series of posts on Importance of Charity in Islam.

Today, in this post, we share yet another verse from Surah 2. Al Baqarah (The Cow) in which a promise made by Allah for all those who part with the part of their wealth to find rewards with their Lord:

اَلَّذِيۡنَ يُنۡفِقُوۡنَ اَمۡوَالَهُمۡ بِالَّيۡلِ وَالنَّهَارِ سِرًّا وَّعَلَانِيَةً فَلَهُمۡ اَجۡرُهُمۡ عِنۡدَ رَبِّهِمۡ​ۚ وَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يَحۡزَنُوۡنَ‏  

(2:274) Those who spend their wealth by night and by day, secretly and publicly, will find that their reward is secure with their Lord and that there is no reason for them to entertain any fear or grief.

Let us now read how various eminent Muslim scholars have explained and interpreted this verse:

Tafsir Ibn-Kathir: 

This Ayah praises those who spend in charity for Allah's sake, seeking His pleasure, day and night, publicly and in secret, including what one spends on his family. 

The Two Sahihs recorded that the Messenger of Allah said to Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas: 

(You will not spend charity with which you seek Allah's Face, but you will ascend a higher degree and status because of it, including what you put in your wife's mouth.)

Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Mas`ud said that the Prophet said, (When the Muslim spends on his family while awaiting the reward for it from Allah, it will be written as charity for him.)

Allah said, (shall have their reward with their Lord), on the Day of Resurrection, as reward for what they spent in acts of obedience. We previously explained the Ayah: (there shall be no fear on them nor shall they grieve.)

Yusuf Ali Explanation:  

We recapitulate the beauty of charity (i.e. unselfish giving of one's self or one's goods) before we come to its opposite, i.e. the selfish grasping greed of usury against those in need or distress. Charity instead of impoverishing you will enrich you; you will have more happiness and less fear. Contrast it with what follows, - the degradation of the grasping usurer.

Tafsir Qur'an Wiki:

This verse gives a concise summary of the whole subject of charity and reiterates, reassuringly, the pledge made to those who give out of sheer humanity and altruism. They will have their reward which includes an increase of what they have in this life, other life blessings, and a reward in the hereafter. But they also have what is more than that, namely earning God’s pleasure. Hence, they need to fear nothing whatsoever in this life or in the life to come.

There is a striking harmony between this closing comment and the earlier detailed statements. It provides a fitting final note for the Islamic ethical code of charity which represents a vital aspect of Islamic community and social life.

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Man is mortal!! This is something that we have been listening to since our early school days. But the wisdom behind this phrase start to dawn on a man when he walks along a path or travels and ultimately ends up in his journey at his destination. No destination is infinite for every beginning has an end. Life too is like a journey: we are born and we commence our life long journey till we find our final resting place, our grave. Even if we manage to stuff our suitcases with precious souvenirs and fancy clothes, the end is in a state when a man has nothing but his body which rots away in a few days under the earth.

What remains with man is his good or otherwise deeds that he did during his earthly life. These are his invisible companions that accompany him on his next journey to the Day of Resurrection when he will be rewarded or awarded for all he did. So let us stuff our suitcases with good virtues that will save us when none other will come forward for help.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has referred men as strangers and traveler for he has no permanent home. He carries on his journey as long as he lives. If he chooses the right path, his end will be rewarding, leading to Jannah / paradise. But if he walks on paths that are though fascinating and inviting with lewdness and sins, his destination will be the burning fire of hell. 

This Hadith is mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī  (Book 81 - To make the Heart Tender (Ar-Riqaq) كتاب الرقاق / Chapter 3: Be in this world as if you were a stranger باب قَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ كُنْ فِي الدُّنْيَا كَأَنَّكَ غَرِيبٌ، أَوْ عَابِرُ سَبِيلٍ ‏ ) as Hadith 6416, given herein under:

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ الطُّفَاوِيُّ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الأَعْمَشِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُجَاهِدٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِمَنْكِبِي فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ كُنْ فِي الدُّنْيَا كَأَنَّكَ غَرِيبٌ، أَوْ عَابِرُ سَبِيلٍ ‏"‏‏.‏ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ إِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ فَلاَ تَنْتَظِرِ الصَّبَاحَ، وَإِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ فَلاَ تَنْتَظِرِ الْمَسَاءَ، وَخُذْ مِنْ صِحَّتِكَ لِمَرَضِكَ، وَمِنْ حَيَاتِكَ لِمَوْتِكَ‏.‏

Narrated by Mujahid:

`Abdullah bin `Umar said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) took hold of my shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler." The sub-narrator added: Ibn `Umar used to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death."

So, choose your path for your life long travel well, lest embarking upon a journey of pleasures alone robs us of our good reward at the end.

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door. 

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Teaching Mannerism to Believers: Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet

In our series of posts on Teaching Mannerism to Believers as mentioned in the Surah 49. Al Hujuraat (The Private Apartments), we share yet a very important manner specially when a believer is in the company of men, special one's elders. It is generally observed that believers disregard the presence of elders while in their company in a group of people, they talk loudly, thus suppressing the voice of the elders who may be addressing everyone or even a few and talking words of wisdom. 

The second verse of Surah Al Hujuraat is about the same aspect. Although, this verse was revealed to teach mannerism to these attending group meetings addressed by the revered prophet of Allah, Muhammad ﷺ. They Bedouins, hailing from a coarse way of life, were in the habit of talking loudly and among themselves completely disregarding the presence of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Prophet of Allah. This act of theirs was tantamount to disrespect and against the basic etiquette of how to sit in a group.

يٰۤاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا لَا تَرۡفَعُوۡۤا اَصۡوَاتَكُمۡ فَوۡقَ صَوۡتِ النَّبِىِّ وَلَا تَجۡهَرُوۡا لَهٗ بِالۡقَوۡلِ كَجَهۡرِ بَعۡضِكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ اَنۡ تَحۡبَطَ اَعۡمَالُكُمۡ وَاَنۡـتُمۡ لَا تَشۡعُرُوۡنَ‏

(49:2) Believers, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet and when speaking to him do not speak aloud as you speak aloud to one another, lest all your deeds are reduced to nothing without your even realizing it.

This is the etiquette that was taught to the people who sat among the audience of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ or came to visit him. Its intention was that the believers should treat 'the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with the highest respect and reverence when visiting him and talking to him. Nobody should raise his voice louder than his: the people should not be unmindful of the fact that they are addressing the Messenger of Allah, and not a common man, or a person of equal rank; therefore, there should be a marked difference between one's tone of conversation with the common people and one's tone of conversation with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and no one should talk to him in a voice louder than his.

Although this etiquette was taught for sitting in the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ 's assembly and its addressees were the people who were living in his time, the people of the later ages also should observe the same respect and reverence on the occasion when the Holy Prophet's name is mentioned, or a command of his is stated, or his sayings are explained. Besides, this verse also points out what attitude the people should adopt when talking to persons of a higher rank and status than themselves. A person's talking before the men of a higher rank in a way as he talks before his friends or the common men, is in fact a sign that he has no respect for them in his heart, and he does not recognize any difference between them and the common people. 

This shows what high position the person of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ occupies in Islam. No one beside the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, whatever his rank and status, has a position that unmannerly behavior towards him should deserve in the sight of Allah the same punishment which is, in fact, the punishment for disbelief. In respect of ordinary people, it is at the most a sort of rudeness, an uncivilized conduct, but in respect of the Holy Prophet a little lack of reverence is such a grave sin as can destroy all the services of one's lifetime. For the reverence of the Holy Prophet is indeed reverence of that God Who has sent him as His Messenger and lack of reverence for him amounts to lack of reverence to God Himself.

Muhammad Asad Explanation:

This has both a literal and a figurative meaning: literal in the case of the Prophet's Companions, and figurative for them as well as for believers of later times - implying that one's personal opinions and predilections must not be allowed to overrule the clear-cut legal ordinances and/or moral stipulations promulgated by the Prophet (cf. 4:65 and the corresponding note [84]).

Yusuf Ali Explanation: 

It is bad manners to talk loudly before your Leader. Some ill-mannered people so raise their voices as to drown the voice of their Leader, in conversation or in Council.

Such rudeness may even destroy the value of such services as they may otherwise have been able to render, and all this without their even realising the harm they were doing to the Cause.

Javed Ahmad Ghamidi Explanation:

If they adopt this attitude, it will show that they have not recognized the status of God’s messenger. In fact, by being overcome with the pride of their own superiority, they have not even understood that they are not addressing some common person or some leader of theirs and that they are in fact addressing God’s messenger and have come to learn something from him and it is not the other way round.

(lest everything you do ends up in vain) Ie., so extra-ordinary is the status of God’s messenger that if he is not given due respect, it is such a grave sin that it can reduce their life-long earning to nothing. They must keep in mind that showing respect to him is in fact showing respect to God Who has actually sent him as His messenger.

( and you are not even aware of it) Ie., they are not even aware of, after accepting Islam and apparently following its teachings, what they have actually lost.

Tafsir Qur'an Wiki:

The second aspect of good manners concerned the Prophet's Companions' own discourse with him and the respect they should feel and show. This was to be observed in how they spoke to him and in the level of their voices. This was how they should manifest their respect for the Prophet as they sat with him. As God drew their attention to this requirement, He addressed them by that quality they loved to have and warned them that violation of His orders might bring grievous consequences in its wake: "Believers! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor speak loudly to him as you would speak loudly to one another, lest all your deeds should come to nothing without your perceiving it." (Verse 2)

This kindly address coupled with its awesome warning had their profound effect on the Prophet's Companions. Al-Bukhari reports that Abu Mulaykah said: "The two goodly ones, Abu Bakr and 'Umar [may God be pleased with them], were in a perilous situation, as they raised their voices in the presence of the Prophet. When the delegation of the Tamim tribe arrived [in the ninth year of the Islamic calendar] one of them suggested al-Agra' ibn Habis [to be appointed as their chief], while the other suggested another man. [One reporter says that he does not remember the name of this second man, while another reporter mentions that he was al-Qa 'qa ibn Ma 'bad.] Abu Bakr said to Umar: 'You merely want to oppose me.' The other replied: 'I do not wish to oppose you.' They were soon speaking loudly. The verse was revealed saying: 'Believers! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor speak loudly to him as you would speak loudly to one another, lest all your deeds should come to nothing without your perceiving it.' (Verse 2) Ibn al-Zubayr says that after its revelation `Limar would hardly use an audible voice when he spoke to the Prophet until the Prophet asked him to speak up. It is also reported that when this verse was revealed, Abu Bakr said to the Prophet: 'God's Messenger, I will only speak to you in a whisper.

Surah Al Hujuraat الۡحُجُرٰتِ (The Private Apartments): Teaching Mannerism to Believers

Each religion teaches its followers to be peaceful with its followers. However, Islam goes a step further as it lays down guidelines not only to support and look after the poor and the downtrodden and various laws that regulate the functioning of the society, but also lays down elaborate instructions to teach manners and etiquette to the believers in order to create a well-balanced and harmonious inter-personal and inter-community relationship. 

These instructions and guidelines are spread all over the 114 chapters of the Qur'an. In fact, each chapter has a specific theme or set of themes for the guidance of the believers. Surah Al Hujuraat, the 49th Chapter of the Qur'an, is one such chapter solely aimed at teaching mannerism to the believers.

He it is Who accepts repentance from His servants and answers their prayers

The strongest, yet most fragile creature created by God is the man. Man can undertake tasks using his physical strength and reaches places which are unreachable otherwise. Yet, he is too fragile when it comes to battling against the Satanic machination, and many lose. It is then that many realize the damage they have done to them and feel remorse. and do not know how to make amends. It is then the Divine Help comes with a reassurance that if they sincerely repent, not only will their repentance be accepted but also their prayers too from thence onward.

Those who revert to Islam after changing their faith of birth, should take solace from this shared verse for sincere repentance from one's past will have them been given a new life with a clean slate to start their life afresh under the fold of Islam. Such assurances from Allah in fact area source of great consolation for many a non-Muslims who have had a rough life and willingly revert to Islam for God has promised them a new and clean life.

We share this Divine Promise as mentioned in verses 25-26 of Surah 42, Ash Shura (The Consultation), which means whatever the sin, Allah's Mercy is open to sincere Repentance, at all times, until the decree of condemnation issues, and that to the prayers of the righteous He listens, and He gives them of His Bounty beyond their deserts. Every time they do a little good, they are increased in their goodness. Every right impulse or aspiration is strengthened and leads to progressive spiritual advancement.:

وَهُوَ الَّذِىۡ يَقۡبَلُ التَّوۡبَةَ عَنۡ عِبَادِهٖ وَيَعۡفُوۡا عَنِ السَّيِّاٰتِ وَيَعۡلَمُ مَا تَفۡعَلُوۡنَ ۙ‏ 

(42:25) He it is Who accepts repentance from His servants and forgives sins and knows all what you do,

وَيَسۡتَجِيۡبُ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ وَيَزِيۡدُهُمۡ مِّنۡ فَضۡلِهٖ​ؕ وَالۡكٰفِرُوۡنَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ شَدِيۡدٌ‏ 

(42:26) and answers the prayers of those who believe and do good deeds and bestows upon them even more out of His Bounty. As for those who deny (the Truth), a grievous chastisement awaits them.

Calling the people's attention to repentance immediately after the preceding verse by itself gives the meaning, as if to say: "O wicked people: Why are you making yourselves still more worthy of God's punishment by falsely accusing the true Prophet? If you desist from your misdeeds even now, and offer true repentance Allah will forgive you." Repentance means that one should feel remorse for the evil one has done, and should refrain and desist from it in the future. Moreover, it is also an inevitable demand of true repentance that one should try one's utmost to compensate for the evil one has done in the past, and wherever compensation is not possible, one should seek Allah's forgiveness and should do better to wipe off the blot from oneself. But no repentance can be true repentance unless it is offered with the intention of pleasing Allah. Giving up an evil for some other reason or intention is no repentance at All.”

Tafsir Ibn-Kathir: (Allah accepts Repentance and responds to Supplications)

Here Allah reminds His servants that He accepts repentance. If they turn to Him and come back to Him, then by His kindness and generosity He forgives, overlooks and conceals (their sins), as He says: (And whoever does evil or wrongs himself but afterwards seeks Allah's forgiveness, he will find Allah Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.) (4:110) 

It was reported in Sahih Muslim that Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "The Messenger of Allah said: (Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than anyone of you who loses his riding beast in a barren land, and it was carrying his food and drink; he despairs of ever finding it, so he comes to a tree and lies down in its shade, having given up all hope of finding his riding beast; then whilst he is there like that, suddenly he sees it standing near him, so he takes hold of its reins and because of his great joy he says, "O Allah, You are my slave and I am Your Lord!'' -- i.e.,. He makes a mistake because of his great joy.)'' 

A similar report was also narrated in the Sahih from `Abdullah bin Mas`ud, may Allah be pleased with him. (And He it is Who accepts repentance from His servants,) It was reported that Az-Zuhri said, concerning this Ayah, that Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "The Messenger of Allah said: (Allah rejoices more over the repentance of His servant than one of you feels when he finds his lost camel in a place where he had feared that he would die of thirst.)''

Hammam bin Al-Harith said, "Ibn Mas`ud was asked about a man who commits immoral sins with a woman and then marries her. He said, `There is nothing wrong with that,' and recited: (And He it is Who accepts repentance from His servants).''

(and forgives sins,) means, He will accept repentance in the future, and He forgives past sins.

(and He knows what you do. ) means, He knows all your deeds and actions and words, yet He still accepts the repentance of those who repent to Him.

(and gives them increase of His bounty.) means, He answers their supplications and gives them more besides. Qatadah said, narrating from Ibrahim An-Nakha`i Al-Lakhmi about the Ayah: (And He answers those who believe and do righteous good deeds,) -- (this means) they intercede for their brothers;

(And as for the disbelievers, theirs will be a severe torment.) -- having mentioned the believers and the great reward that is theirs, Allah then mentions the disbelievers and the severe, painful, agonizing torment that they will find with Him on the Day of Resurrection, the Day when they are brought to account.

Tafsir Qur'an Wiki:

It is He who accepts the repentance of His servants and pardons bad deeds. He knows everything you do. He responds to those who believe and do righteous deeds, and gives them much more of His bounty; but as for the unbelievers, severe suffering awaits them. If God were to grant plentiful provisions to His servants, they would behave on earth with much insolence. As it is, He bestows from on high in due measure, as He wills. He is fully aware of His creatures, and He sees them all. (Verses 25-27)

These verses follow immediately after the verses that show the wrongdoers dreading having to face what they have done given it will inevitably fall back on them. Those verses also painted an image of the believers as they revel in their rewards, secure in the flowering meadows of paradise. Moreover, those earlier verses confirmed what the Prophet delivered to them of God's message and stated that God is fully aware of what their hearts may harbour.

As this second part opens, it calls on people to turn to God and abandon their erroneous ways before a final judgement is passed on them. The door to repentance is left wide open. God Almighty accepts repentance and pardons bad deeds. Hence, there is no need to despair, go further into disobedience, or panic because of the sins they have committed. God knows what they do, and He certainly knows sincere repentance and accepts it, just as He knows their past sins and pardons them for these.

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door. 

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.

Can Desecration of Qur'an stop the spread of Islam

The gory incident desecration of Qur'an recently in Sweden has really disturbed Muslims all over the world, for Qur'an is similarly sacred to Muslims as is Torah to Jews and Bible to Christians. This horrendous act is not the first of its kind, which the non0Muslims around the world undertake under the pretext of freedom of speech and expression.

Such incidents not only show hatred of non-Muslims towards Islam and Muslims, but also show the utter frustration the non-Muslim feel when they see Islam flourishing and spreading despite an intense media war against Islam and Muslims. The Islamophobiac actions such as burning of copies of Qur'an and snatching headscarves from Muslim women are gaining momentum in many non-Muslim countries including USA, Britian and man European countries. 

If any religion was attacked the way Islam is being attacked every day, it would have collapsed by now or may be many years ago. But Islam stands and stands stronger with every day that passes. Besides, over the years Islam has become the fastest growing religion, and perhaps this is one thing that worries the non-Muslims. Although many rubbish the growing numbers and attribute it to a greater number of children being born to Musils, but it seems a lame excuse as the statistics by independent watch group show that more and more non-Muslims are reverting to Islam. A post that I recently posted showed that almost 25,000 Americans revert to Islam each year.

In fact, there are revert experiences where many non-Muslims confessed that they were dead against Islam and considered Qur'an as a fabrication. Many tried to find faults in Qur'an by reading it over and over again, but ending up reverting to Islam. So, this shows that the very basis of media bashing of Islam is losing war against the truth that Islam shows and the guidance that Qur'an provides. It is by reading Qur'an that many non-Muslims come to know that their belief of Jesus being son of God or even at par with God was ill-founded and that Jesus was a revered prophet like Moses, Noah and Muhammad (peace be upon all). They are also astounded to know that Muslims revere Moses and Jesus and keep them in high esteem. 

Please read many posts from our Reference Page: Embracing Islam: The Revert Experiences, where many accounts are given of those who read Qur'an to shoot it down as a false fiction book, but ended up in embracing Islam.

As a response to burning of Qur'an in Sweden, someone announced burring of Torah, which drew strong reaction from the Jews and other non-Muslims. This in fact shows double standards of non-Muslims about Muslims. While they can allow burning of Qur'an at a venue well-guarded by Police so that non-Muslim could intervene with this 'Grant Act of hatred against Muslims," they refuse to allow burning of Torah. Although no Muslim will do it even by compulsion, I think it was a symbolic gesture to show the ugly face of the notion of Freedom of Expression which extremely biased and is leisurely used for point scoring against Muslims.

The truth which many do not understand that by burning Qur'an, they cannot hinder spread of Islam. Even if all copies of Qur'an from the entire world are burnt, Qur'an will still be preserved as it is memorized by heart by millions of Muslims across the globe.  wonder if there are devotees in other religions who have memorized their entire scriptures. And if the idea is to obliterate from Qur'an from the book shelves, libraries and masjid, what would you do about Qur'an preserved in the hearts and minds of millions of Muslims, as small as five years old? Start killing them too?

I do hope, and this is the voice of all Muslims around the world, that sanity would prevail in the non-Muslim world and they will come to realize the universality of Qur'an and its growth based on logic and not misinformation or disinformation. The clerics of each religion need to foster inter religion harmony and should not feed negativities in the minds of their followers so that they behave irrationally and express anger about each other's faith.

As for Islam, I have yet to come across a imam talking against Torah or Bible, though we do believe that many invocations have entered in these Divine Scriptures which have overshadowed the actual Divine Wisdom contained therein. Qur'an being the final Divine Scripture of One True God without any associates, assistants or even kith and kin, summarizes all the commandments contained in Torah and Bible and present the unpolluted and unequivocal word of God, the only Lord of the entire universe. Unless others come to terms with Islam and Qur'an, such emotional outburst by non-Muslims would continue, which may disturb the world peace.

All non-Muslim countries need to be prudent and address the growing extremism against in their countries and let no one hurt the religious feelings of others' faith even if paid or under the garb of freedom of expression, for religions are far above the freedom of expression thing as these are commandments of God, and not of men, clerics and imams.

Two most enviable believers (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Alhamdolillah, we all Muslims are lucky to be followers of Islam, a religion that is full of rewards and glad tidings for its followers. While all Muslims can be proud of being followers of Islam and the most revered of all the prophets, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who could be more blessed who is envied none other than Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself? 

In one of the Hadiths, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has mentioned two believers whom he said he envied. This Hadith is mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī  (Book 66 - Virtues of the Qur'an كتاب فضائل القرآن / Chapter 20: Wish to be the like of the one who recites the Qur'an باب اغْتِبَاطِ صَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ ) as Hadith 5025, given herein under:

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ لاَ حَسَدَ إِلاَّ عَلَى اثْنَتَيْنِ، رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ الْكِتَابَ وَقَامَ بِهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ، وَرَجُلٌ أَعْطَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالاً فَهْوَ يَتَصَدَّقُ بِهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated by`Abdullah bin `Umar: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Not to wish to be the like except of two men. A man whom Allah has given the knowledge of the Book and he recites it during the hours of the night, and a man whom Allah has given wealth, and he spends it in charity during the night and the hours of the day."

The above quoted Hadith mentions these two believers whom the Prophet of Allah has said to be envied. And how easy it is to fall into these two categories: Being the one who recites Qur'an during the hours of the night, and a man who is charitable and looks after the poor.

If we follow the Divine commandments as contained in Qur'an and the Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, we come across many categories of believers who Allah has ordained to be placed in higher pedestals than the rest. And the acts that make one believer sit higher on ladder of the blessed ones are many, yet easy to attain and follow. We have been sharing many verses from Qur'an which list out such enviable believers so that we too make an endeavour to emulate their deeds that Allah and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ have promised to be rewarded greatly than others.

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. Allah promises believers: Do not be fearful, I am with you, hearing and seeing

Man has never been sure footed despite having faith in his Lord. The strength and confidence seems to waver when confronted with a person sitting at a higher pedestal or a man of authority. This often happens and men of intellect and wisdom have cold feet when confronting an authority, may be inferior to them in wisdom and intellect. Not that they are afraid of being beaten intellectually, but by being persecuted for confronting the authority.

The same ws the state of Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) and his brother Harun (Aaron) when God asked them to go to Pharoah and present them as messenger of Allah. In the 45th verse of Surah Ta Ha, the mindset of the two is reflected: The two said: "Lord! We fear he may commit excesses against us, or transgress all bounds." Sensing their hesitance to appear before a tyrant, Allah reassured them of His being with them and told them not to fear as mentioned in the 46th verse of Surah 20. Ta Ha:

قَالَ لَا تَخَافَآ​ اِنَّنِىۡ مَعَكُمَاۤ اَسۡمَعُ وَاَرٰى‏ 

(20:46) He said: "Have no fear. I am with you, hearing and seeing all."

Ibn-Kathir explains that "Do not fear Pharoah (Fir`awn), for verily, I am with you and I hear your speech and his speech as well. I see your place and I see his place as well. Nothing is hidden from Me of your affair. Know that his forehead is in My Hand, and he does not speak, breathe, or use any force, except by My leave and after My command. I am with you by My protection, My help and My support.'': 

Tafsir Qur'an Wiki:

At this point they receive God’s decisive answer which leaves no room for fear or worry: “Answered He: Have no fear. I shall be with you. I hear all and see all.” (Verse 46) Thus, God Almighty who has power over all creatures and who creates the universe and all creatures in it, using nothing more than His will to bring them into existence, tells them that He is with them. This should have been sufficient, but God adds to this what increases their certainty of help. This is evidenced by the fact that He hears all and sees all. What could Pharaoh do against the power of the Almighty, whether in a precipitate reaction or a well-considered one?

In the light of the above two explanations of the verse quoted above, let it be said that this promise that Allah made with Prophet Musa and his brother was not specific to them alone. In fact, any man of faith who has firm believe in Allah has been reassured by Allah that He is always with his servants. And that He is in full knowledge of the situation confronted by His servants and He is fully aware of what odds are against them. Having said that, they are reassured not to be fearful of their situation for Allah will find a way-out better than what they think. So, always trust Allah and have firm faith in His wisdom and magnanimity to rescue someone who is being confronted with tyrants and his rights are being usurped.

An effort has been made to gather explanation / exegesis of the surahs of the Qur'ān from authentic sources and then present a least possible condensed explanation of the surah. In that the exegesis of the chapters of the Quran is mainly based on the "Tafhim al-Qur'an - The Meaning of the Qur'an" by one of the most enlightened scholars of the Muslim World Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi.  

In order to augment and add more explanation as already provided, additional input has been interjected from the following sources:

• Translation Javed Ahmad Ghamidi / Al Mawrid
