Why Friday (Youm ul Jumuʿah) assumes a special place in Islam

This post is continuation of series of posts on importance of Friday and Ṣalāt al-Jumuʿah (The Friday congregational prayer). We have already apprised our readers about the importance of Ṣalāt al-Jumuʿah and what are the desirable acts before one proceeds to the masjid to perform the Ṣalāt al-Jumuʿah.

Here a query may crop up in the minds of non Muslims as to why Muslims pay lot of emphasis on Ṣalāt al-Jumuʿah or for that matter the Friday it self. To clear any doubt, we share a short video clip by one of the eminent Muslim scholar Abu Bakr Zoud who apprise us as to why Friday assumes a special place in the lives of Muslims.

Before you listen to the lectured video below, we would like to share a hadith (saying of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) reported by Abu Huraira (R.A) “The best day in the days of week is a day of Jumma, in that day Adam was created, in that day he entered in heaven, on Friday he was taken out of heaven”. So Jumma is a special.

Now listen to the complete lecture by Abu Bakr Zoud elaborating the importance of Friday, Youm ul Jumu'ah:
Abu Bakr Zoud is a graduate of the Faculty of Quran from the Islamic University of Madinah, after which he continued his Qur’anic Studies in Egypt. He received numerous ijazaat in Hafs including one from Sh Ali Al-Hudhafy, the Imam of Masjid An-Nabwi. Abu Bakr Zoud specialises in Qir’aat and currently teaches Tafseer at the Islamic College Australia.
