How does Fasting in Ramadan Train us to achieve Self Control

The month of Ramadan is just a couple of days away. Lucky will be those who will be fasting in this holy month to please Allah by abstaining from all otherwise Halal things. By abstaining ourselves from all Halal things in fact means that we are conditioning ourself to impose self control over ourselves.

Fasting is called Sawm in Arabic which means to stop or abstain from something. When it applies to believers, it means that one has to abstain oneself from all those things that are otherwise Halal for us.

We have already published a number of posts on Ramadan and fasting during this month (you may consult our reference page: Ramadan: The Month of Fasting and Blessings for our earlier posts). Now let us now listen to a short lecture by eminent Muslim scholar Wahiduddin Khan (1925-2021) on how fasting can infuse self discipline in us.  Wahiduddin Khan was a Islamic scholar and peace activist known for having written a commentary on the Quran and having translated it into contemporary English and talking on issues related to Islam:
May this Ramadan we really understand the virtues of fasting and condition ourselves to infuse self discipline in us not only during the month of Ramadan but for the rest of our lives. ameen
