Compiled verses from Qur'an on specific subjects: Faith in Allah

Faith in One True God is central to the belief of all Muslims. None other than He is to be worshipped for He alone commands the entire universe being its sole Creator. Non-Muslims may come up with any logic to justify their religion and faith, yet the truth can never be denied and it would ultimately prevail on their biased and artificial thoughts about the Creator and the Creation.

We believe that whatever good or bad happens to us, is from Allah as a test and we must remain steadfast under all trying conditions, no matter how distressed we may be, and exhibit a very high degree of faith in Allah. Here let us mention a verse from Qur'an which is the last verse of Surah 9. At Tauba with the same theme:

فَاِنۡ تَوَلَّوۡا فَقُلۡ حَسۡبِیَ اللّٰہُ ۫٭ۖ لَاۤ اِلٰہَ اِلَّا ہُوَ ؕ عَلَیۡہِ تَوَکَّلۡتُ وَ ہُوَ رَبُّ الۡعَرۡشِ الۡعَظِیۡمِ

But if they turn away Say: "Allah sufficeth me: There is no god but He: On Him is my trust - He the Lord of the Throne (Of Glory) Supreme!  

In this one verse, the firm and true faith is exhibited, which has always been the hallmark of all Divine religions and all revered prophets of Allah exhibited the same faith. There are numerous verses in Qur'an which allow all believers to cement their faith in One True God, the Omnipotent without any associates.

We have already shared a number of verses from Qur'an on Faith in Allah. Herein under we have combined all these posts to serve as a ready reckoner:

• Allah listens to the caller when he calls Him (Surah 2. Al-Baqara:186)
• Allah is the Guardian of those who believe, He brings them out of every darkness into light (Surah 2. Al-Baqara:257)

• Believers! Cleanse your faith if you believe in God and yet associate others with Him  (Surah 12. Yusuf:106)
• Beware!  Do not take Mortals as allies instead of Allah - The One True God (Surah 18. Al Kahf: 102)
• When planning something, always say In sha' Allah (Surah 18 Al Kahf: 24)
• Prophetic Faith in Allah (attributed to Prophet Ibrahim - Abraham) - a cue for those mulling to revert to Islam  (Surah 19. Maryam : 48)
• Can a faithful child Disobey his parents? (Surah 29. Al-Ankabut:8)
• Put your trust in the Ever Living One Who dies not (Surah 25. Al-Furqan:58)

May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door. 

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

Prophetic Supplication in Times of Distress (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Man's worries and confrontations are endless, which often leave him in a state of distress. In such times, nothing works except invoking Allah and praying for redressal of his grievances. We have shared many supplications attributed to prophets and that of last of the prophets Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Today we share yet another supplication attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as it appears in Sahih al-Bukhari (Book 80 of Invocations - كتاب الدعوات  - Chapter 27. To invoke Allah at a time of distress  باب الدُّعَاءِ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ ) as Hadith 6346: 

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ ‏ "‏ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ، وَرَبُّ الأَرْضِ، وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ ‏"‏‏.‏ وَقَالَ وَهْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ مِثْلَهُ‏.‏

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to say at a time of distress, "La ilaha illal-lahu Rabbul-l-'arsh il-'azim, La ilaha illallahu Rabbu-s-samawati wa Rabbu-l-ard, Rabbu-l-'arsh-il-Karim."

The above quoted supplication by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is translated as: There is none worthy of worship but Allah, the almighty, the Forbearing. There is none worthy of worship but Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne. There is none worth of worship but Allah, Lord of the Heavens and Lord of the earth, and Lord of the Noble Throne.

The premise should be the opener of our supplication, for no supplication is meaningful unless we first address the Lord of the Universe in as good attributes and names as are worthy of His Might before invoking His countless mercies.

Reward of Fasting (Hadith Qudsi Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Intermittent fasting has become a modern trend to keep oneself in shape and healthy - an act purely on a medical basis and physical fitness. But fasting purely to please Allah has altogether a different dimension. Fasting for Allah means abstaining from every Halal thing during the duration of the fasting period, not for personal fitness and health reasons, but only to please Allah. 

Saum / fasting assumes an important place in the five-founding pillar of Islam:

• Profession of Faith (shahada). The belief that "There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God" is central to Islam
• Prayer (salat). Muslims pray facing Mecca five times a day: at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and after dark
• Zakat (Obligatory Charity)
• Sawm صَوْم (Fasting) 
• Hajj (Pilgrimage)

Sawm is directly stated in the Quran saying: “Eat and drink until the whiteness of the day becomes distinct from the blackness of the night at dawn, then complete the fast till night…”. The fast occurs from dawn to sunset each day during which time believers are expected to prohibit themselves from any food, drink, sexual intercourse, or smoking. However, after sunset and before dawn, individuals can participate in any of the actions previously stated as they desire.

Since one abstains from Halal things purely to please Allah, Allah has Himself promised that the reward of fasting will be awarded by Him, mainly for this reason that a believer abstains from otherwise Halal things, though still accessible to him, for Allah. Therefore, when we fast, we must make sure that we do it to please Allah and not as a show off to appear pious in the eyes of others. 

This importance of fasting and its reward by Allah has been mentioned as * Hadith Qudsi in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī  (Book 30 Fasting (Al-Adab) كتاب الصوم / Chapter 9: Should one say, "I am observing Saum (fast)" on being abused? باب هَلْ يَقُولُ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ إِذَا شُتِمَِ) as Hadith 1904 (Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi متفق عليه - (authenticity agreed upon) according to Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

* Hadith Qudsi is a narration from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which is supposed to be from Allah (SWT) in its meanings and from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) in its wordings. Hadith Qudsi is not like Qur'an because the whole Qur'an is absolutely authentic and every letter in Qur'an is from Allah the Glorious in the meaning and the words, while Hadith Qudsi is a narration which must be authentic and if it is proves authentic, then the meanings is from Allah but the wordings is from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Narrated Abu Huraira:

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ الزَّيَّاتِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ قَالَ اللَّهُ كُلُّ عَمَلِ ابْنِ آدَمَ لَهُ إِلاَّ الصِّيَامَ، فَإِنَّهُ لِي، وَأَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ‏.‏ وَالصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ، وَإِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ صَوْمِ أَحَدِكُمْ، فَلاَ يَرْفُثْ وَلاَ يَصْخَبْ، فَإِنْ سَابَّهُ أَحَدٌ، أَوْ قَاتَلَهُ فَلْيَقُلْ إِنِّي امْرُؤٌ صَائِمٌ‏.‏ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَخُلُوفُ فَمِ الصَّائِمِ أَطْيَبُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ رِيحِ الْمِسْكِ، لِلصَّائِمِ فَرْحَتَانِ يَفْرَحُهُمَا إِذَا أَفْطَرَ فَرِحَ، وَإِذَا لَقِيَ رَبَّهُ فَرِحَ بِصَوْمِهِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Allah said, 'All the deeds of Adam's sons (people) are for them, except fasting which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.' Fasting is a shield or protection from fire and from committing sins. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid sexual relations with his wife and quarreling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, 'I am fasting.' By Him in Whose Hands my soul is' The unpleasant smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting."

Let us fast to please Allah alone for we will be rewarded exclusively by Allah on the Day of Resurrection.

Beware of suspicion: Do not spy to look for others' faults

Whenever I pick up a Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, I get embarrassed and ashamed for we are only doing a lip service of being a Muslim while our actions are entirely tangent to teaching of Islam and preaching of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Hadith selected for this post, about jealousy, suspicion and finding faults with others, is yet another warner which was as applicable to the initial times of Islam when the newly inducted Muslims continued to carry with them the habits and culture of the dark days. And today after almost 15 centuries, our habits are exactly the same for which Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had cautioned against.

This Hadith has been mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī  (Book 78 Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab) كتاب الأدب / Chapter 57: Jealousy and mutual estrangement are forbidden بَابُ مَا يُنْهَى عَنِ التَّحَاسُدِ وَالتَّدَابُرِ) as Hadith 6064

Narrated Abu Huraira:

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالظَّنَّ، فَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ أَكْذَبُ الْحَدِيثِ، وَلاَ تَحَسَّسُوا، وَلاَ تَجَسَّسُوا، وَلاَ تَحَاسَدُوا، وَلاَ تَدَابَرُوا، وَلاَ تَبَاغَضُوا، وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا ‏"‏‏.‏

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales; and do not look for the others' faults and do not spy, and do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert (cut your relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and O Allah's worshipers! Be brothers (as Allah has ordered you!")

Now if we look at the Prophetic warning, we would realize that we have not changed since. Many of us are always on the lookout to find some fault with others, even close relatives, to save a point scoring or use it to their nefarious intentions. This post is more applicable to women for it is their habit to talk ill of others, being unnecessarily suspicious of others and always eavesdropping to pick up some "news" to be spread in their circles to belittle the others.

A recent trend is the use of spy cameras installed in hotels and rest houses where people of position stay to make videos of their private lives to blackmail them. I wonder whether such people read these Hadiths or are so indifferent to these sayings and sin by their jealous actions. I wish we become better Muslims someday.

Who will be the worst people in the sight of Allah on Day of Resurrection

Islam teaches us to be honest and fair in our relations with others and our dealings. Unless a Muslim follows the tenets of basic etiquettes of sociability and keeps his relations clean and devoid of any conceit, his Deen is in danger. 

People who appear friendly but talk ill of others in their absence are called double faced people. They are insincere, saying unpleasant things about you to other people while seeming to be pleasant when they are with you. In fact, these days many people are double faced and it is really difficult to differentiate between the good and the bad people.

There is a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in which he has warned the believers for being double faced. This Hadith has been mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī  (Book 78 Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab) كتاب الأدب / Chapter 52: What is said about a double-faced person باب مَا قِيلَ فِي ذِي الْوَجْهَيْنِ) as Hadith 6058:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ تَجِدُ مِنْ شَرِّ النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ ذَا الْوَجْهَيْنِ، الَّذِي يَأْتِي هَؤُلاَءِ بِوَجْهٍ وَهَؤُلاَءِ بِوَجْهٍ ‏"‏‏.‏

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The worst people in the Sight of Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be the double-faced people who appear to some people with one face and to other people with another face."

While we should ourselves be cautious of our dealings with others and make sure we do not appear differently in the presence and absence of a people we know. At the same time, we should be watchful of people who are extra nice to us, always smiling, showing out of the way courtesies. Such people often twist statements of people and present altogether different meanings when talking about you to others. Thus, sowing the seeds of discontent and resentment, which often turn friends into enemies.

Let us not be Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde at the same time and be watchful of such double-faced people so as not to be harmed or harm others.

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.  

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible to make you accept it forcibly, And if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, You will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

(The value of) an action depends on the intention behind it (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Today in our series of posts of Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, we share today one of the most popular Hadiths which is memorised by most of the Muslim around the world. Its substance and theme revolve around one's actions and intentions behind. No matter how a noble act is being performed by a man, but unless it is backed by clean and good intentions, the reward will not be as expected or intended.

This Hadith has been mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī  (Book 33 on Government كتاب الإمارة / Chapter 45: The words of the Prophet's saws: "Deeds are but with intentions" which includes fighting and other deeds باب قَوْلِهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّةِ.‏"‏ وَأَنَّهُ يَدْخُلُ فِيهِ الْغَزْوُ وَغَيْرُهُ مِنَ الأَعْمَالِ) as Hadith 1907 a:

It has been narrated on the authority of Umar b. al-Khattab that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ، بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَقَّاصٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّةِ وَإِنَّمَا لاِمْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ لِدُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا أَوِ امْرَأَةٍ يَتَزَوَّجُهَا فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ ‏"‏ ‏.

(The value of) an action depends on the intention behind it. A man will be rewarded only for what he intended. The emigration of one who emigrates for the sake of Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) is for the sake of Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ); and the emigration of one who emigrates for gaining a worldly advantage or for marrying a woman is for what he has emigrated.

Many scholars have commented that this hadith comprises one-third of knowledge because the actions of man involve his heart, his tongue and his limbs, and hence the intention in the heart is one-third of action. It is also deemed to be one-third of knowledge due to scholars commenting that this hadith along with two others comprises the religion of Islam. The other two hadith being “The Halal is clear and the Haram is clear and between them are doubtful matters” (1), and “Whoever innovates in this religion that which is not from it will have all his actions rejected (by Allah).” [1]

The background of this Hadith is mentioned on the basis of an actual incident which happened on the migration of Muslims from Makkah to Medinah. While all Muslims migrated from Makkah with the true intentions of being part of an Islam state which was being formed at Madinah, there was one individual who migrated mainly because the woman he was in love with was migrating. Thus, his intention was to be with the women he loved rather than in the name of Islam or in the way of Allah. When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came to know of this, he responded:  إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّةِ.

This simple Hadith leaves a big message for us. We must keep our intentions clear, clean and for the sake of pleasing Allah when realizing these intentions.  If we are giving away to charity, let it not be a show off to tell others of our generosity but rather it should be a quieter action if we really want to please Allah. Though sometimes it is essential to give charity in a show off to encourage others to give charity too. But then one's intention should also be very clear and there shouldn't be an iota of pride in doing so.

The believers should be visionaries because they should always be checking their intentions and understanding the purpose of their actions. They should be persistently asking themselves about their intentions for their short term and their long goals. Overall, the believer should constantly ask himself; “Why am I doing what I am doing?” Using the words “shall have" in this hadith means that the person will be rewarded for only that which he intended. So, as mentioned in the hadith, if a person performed the Hijrah, but did it with a different intention then he would not be rewarded for that action of Hijrah. [1]

DEEDS that may qualify a man to enter Paradise (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

The concept of Paradise (Jannah) and Hell (Jahannam) is amply highlighted in Qur'an and by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in many of his Hadiths. In fact, this was the most sought out questions by believers who had recently embraced Islam in times of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who wanted to leave the evil life they had spent as non-Muslims and do as many good deeds as possible to rewrite their slates. 

We share a Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in which a similar question was asked from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and he replied that if a man did four things, he may be rest assured that he would be a likely contender of entering Jannah.

This Hadith has been mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī  (Book 78   Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab) كتاب الأدب / Chapter 10: Superiority of good relations with relatives باب فَضْلِ صِلَةِ الرَّحِمِ) as Hadith 5983

Narrated Abu Aiyub Al-Ansari:

حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ، وَأَبُوهُ، عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا مُوسَى بْنَ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ـ رضى الله عنه أَنَّ رَجُلاً قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَخْبِرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُنِي الْجَنَّةَ‏.‏ فَقَالَ الْقَوْمُ مَالَهُ مَالَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ أَرَبٌ مَالَهُ ‏"‏‏.‏ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ تَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ لاَ تُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا، وَتُقِيمُ الصَّلاَةَ، وَتُؤْتِي الزَّكَاةَ، وَتَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ، ذَرْهَا ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ كَأَنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ‏.‏

A man said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Inform me of a deed which will make me enter Paradise." The people said, "What is the matter with him? What is the matter with him?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "He has something to ask (what he needs greatly)." The Prophet (ﷺ) said (to him), (In order to enter Paradise) you should worship Allah and join none in worship with Him: You should offer prayers perfectly, give obligatory charity (Zakat), and keep good relations with your Kith and kin." He then said, "Leave it!" (The sub-narrator said, "It seems that the Prophet (ﷺ) was riding his she camel."

The Hadith in nutshell is the total summary of Deen of Islam. If a man sincerely ensures these four things, he has in fact followed the true spirit of Islam. While the first three actions are purely related to between man and Allah, the last one is the between him and everyone around him, especially his kith and kin. It must be remembered that the first right of good conduct is that of parents, which is undebatable and unquestionable, for no matter how harsh or bad they have been with their children, children need to respect and honour them. After the parents, one's brothers/sisters and then very near ones need to be treated gently and goodly. Anyone who breaks the bondage with his near and dear ones, is in fact committing a grave error and may annoy Allah for the base of Islam rests on peace and ensuring peace.

Selected verses from Qur'an about Resurrection

There is no denying the fact that this worldly life is but a temporary abode for the man, for it has to come to an end and a new life for all living and dead earlier will begin on and after the Day of Resurrection. Though atheists and many other do not believe in the life of the Hereafter, yet the reality will unfold one day when their arguments against it happening will be blown in the air and they will have to be made accountable for their weird ideas and disbelief in One True God and His decision to end the earthly life and make every soul that ever lived since Prophet Adam (may peace be upon him).

In Qur'an, Allah warns the man of this day to happen when every soul will be fully repaid of his good or bad deeds. We have already shared a number of posts on the subject. In this post, we have compiled all earlier posted posts about Resurrection for consultation and to serve as a ready reckoner:

May we be warned and fear the day which is bound to happen and continously seek forgiveness of our sins and bad deeds and reach out to those whom we have wronged and ask for their forgiveness, lest it is too late!!

The virtue of the NIGHT Prayer تهجد

In our series of posts on Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, we share yet another Hadit, called Hadith Qudsi which is about the night prayer. But before do that, let us say what Hadith Qudsi is and how it differs from ordinary Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ:

Hadith Qudsi is a narration from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which is supposed to be from Allah (SWT) in its meanings and from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) in its wordings. Hadith Qudsi is not like Qur'an because the whole Qur'an is absolutely authentic and every letter in Qur'an is from Allah the Glorious in the meaning and the words, while Hadith Qudsi is a narration which must be authentic and if it is proves authentic, then the meanings is from Allah but the wordings is from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Now coming over to the Hadith Qudsi selected for this post which is narrated by Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him:

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، وَأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَغَرِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ يَنْزِلُ رَبُّنَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا حِينَ يَبْقَى ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الآخِرُ يَقُولُ مَنْ يَدْعُونِي فَأَسْتَجِيبَ لَهُ مَنْ يَسْأَلُنِي فَأُعْطِيَهُ مَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُنِي فَأَغْفِرَ لَهُ ‏"‏‏.‏

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (p.b.u.h) said, "Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: "Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?"

From the wordings of the Hadith, the importance of the Night Prayer (Tahajjad) is amply highlighted. It is the time when a man, dead tired from a hard day's work, elects to get up voluntarily and offers the Tahajjad salat. The darkness of night with all its quietness provides just the right kind of environment in which a man can "talk" to his Creator and can invoke Him as much as he can to be blessed and his worries redressed. So let us make a habit of getting up before it is time for the pre-dawn prayer, Fajr, and ask for forgiveness and blessings. 

[This Hadith Qudsi has been mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari (Book 19   Prayer at Night (Tahajjud) كتاب التهجد / Chapter 14: Offering Salat (prayer) and invoking Allah in the last hours of the night باب الدُّعَاءِ وَالصَّلاَةِ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ/) as Hadith 1145]

May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.  

وَمَا عَلَيۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ‏ 

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”

That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible to make you accept it forcibly, And if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, You will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

Selected verses from Qur'an on Justice / Rules of Islamic Law

Impartial, unbiased and fair justice is the hallmark of Islamic Law as deduced from Qur'an and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The main purpose of justice under Islamic Law is providing preventive and precautionary measures to minimize the commission of crimes. At the same time, it is to compensate the losses incurred to the aggrieved. Justice should be so impartial that even the wealthiest, positional or occupier of a governmental position be prosecuted against the meek and poor. 

Special instructions are contained in Qur'an about the property of orphans placed under the guardianship of someone who is made dutybound to hand over the orphan's property to them as left by the heirs. Likewise, people are cautioned against bribing the judges to guard against giving false and one-sided decisions to please the rich and famous.

The law of Qisas (retaliation), the practices of conciliation or Suluh, restitution or compensation (Diyya, meaning blood money), isolation, forgiveness, community service, warning, fining and reintegration are all components of the Islamic law. This concept is analogous to the concept of restorative justice. In all these matters, the role of the victim is dominant and central, a mandatory precondition of contemporary restorative practices. [1]

• Do not use your property as bait for the JUDGES with intent that ye may eat up wrongfully (other) people's property (Surah 2. Al-Baqara:188)
• Judge in accordance with Allah's Commandments - and do not dispute on behalf of the dishonest (Surah 4 An Nisa: 105) 
• Believers! Do not deviate from justice. Surely Allah is well aware of what you do (Surah 4. An-Nisaa:135 / 5:8)

It is strange and unbelievable that despite clear instructions as to how to implement and interpret the law, justice is generally not meted out to the victim and high and sundry get scot-free. Our judges, lawyers and believers in general should read relevant verses and ensure justice is upheld without any pressures and or being lured in by hefty bribes. If impartial and unbiased justice is not upheld, Qur'an wars: Do the Evil Doers suppose that they will escape the Divine Grasp? (Surah 29. Al-Ankabut:4)
