Enormous reward of sitting at the prayer mat and remembering Allah after one's As Salat (Prayer)

Muslims all over the world offer obligatory prayers, As Salat, five times a day. The As Salat is a means to communicate with the Master of the Universe, Allah. Therefore one should neither try to hurry up the prayer itself, nor should be in a hurry to get up from one's prayer mat after the As Salt is over. In fact the time after the prayer provides time for a servant of Allah to speak to Allah exclusively by oneself. Those who do so, have an enormous reward in waiting for them.

The reward is mentioned by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in one of his Hadiths as mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 10 - Call to Prayers (Adhaan) /  كتاب الأذان / Chapter 36:  (The reward of a person) who waits for As-Salat (the prayer) in the mosque and the superiority of mosques / باب مَنْ جَلَسَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَنْتَظِرُ الصَّلاَةَ، وَفَضْلِ الْمَسَاجِدِ) as Hadith 659, given herein under:

Narrated by Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said,

"The angels keep on asking for Allah's Blessing and Forgiveness for anyone of you as long as he is at his Musalla (praying place) and does not do Hadath (passes wind). The angels say, 'O Allah! Forgive him and be Merciful to him.' Each one of you is in the prayer as long as he is waiting for the prayer and nothing but the prayer detains him from going to his family."

As Salat / prayer is a means of communication between the servant and his Master, Allah the Almighty. It is the time when one should shun all worldly thoughts and offer one's As Salat as if he is talking directly to Allah, praising Him, acknowledging the countless bounties he has been blessed with and supplicating to remain on the righteous path, As Siraat ul Mustaqeem.

Therefore, one should never be in a hurry to offer his prayer, and concentrate on his one to one connection with his Master. Still better would be to keep sitting at one's prayer mat and remember Allah by using His many attributes (99 Attributes of Allah) or reading Qur'an without getting up from his prayer mat, provided his wudu remains intact. As per the Hadith quoted above, the reward for doing so is enormous as angels keep asking Allah for the forgiveness of the servant of Allah. Let us bag the enormous reward of sitting on the prayer mat after our As Salat.
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.

Reading the Qur'ān should be a daily obligation of a Muslim - Reading it with translation will make it meaningful. But reading its Exegesis / Tafsir will make you understand it fully. It will also help the Muslims to have grasp over social issues and their answers discussed in the Qur'an and other matter related to inter faith so that they are able to discuss issues with non-Muslims with authority based on refences from Qur'an.

Which is the time when Allah promises responding to invocations of believers

It is obligatory on every adult and sane man and woman to offer prayers As Salat five times a day. And Allah responds to their invocations in His own way. But there is one prayer which is not obligatory, yet it carries far more dividends and blessings for the believers. This is the voluntary prayer of Tahajjad, when a believer breaks his sleep in the night and stand in front of his Creator when everyone else is asleep. This is the prayer that Allah loves the most for a His servant has sacrificed his sleep for the love of his Creator. And this is the time when any invocation made by a believer is personally listened to by Allah and Allah promises to respond to the invocations of His servants.

In one of his Hadiths, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has mentioned the descending of Allah to the nearest Heaven from earth and is pleased with His servants praying and supplicating. This Hadith is mentioned in Sahi al-Bukhārī  (Book 19 -   Prayer at Night (Tahajjud) /  كتاب التهجد / Chapter 14: Offering Salat (prayer) and invoking Allah in the last hours of the night / باب الدُّعَاءِ وَالصَّلاَةِ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ) as Hadith 1145, given herein under:

Narrated by Abu Huraira
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (p.b.u.h) said, "Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: "Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?"

Though it is very difficult for men to get up in the last quarter of night for one is already tired of working the whole previous day and resting to get up the next day for the repetition of his daily chores. And if one breaks one's sleep and stand in front of his Rabb voluntary for there is no Adhan for Tahajjad prayer and opens his heart out to Him, hoping his invocations will be heard to. And believe me these are heard and responded.

This is the time when there is no barrier between the man and his Creator - a time when in the quietness of last quarter of night, a man opens his heart out to his Creator as if he is in direct communication with his Lord. The immense joy of such a time and invocation can be described, but felt. Try it out and once a believer makes it a habit to pray the Tahajjad prayer, there is no stopping then. Try it tonight!
Reward of Preserving the Prayer Times (Hadith Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

It has been obligatory upon every adult / sane Muslim man and woman to regularly offer their obligatory prayers five times a day. Since it is a Divine obligation, no one is excused from offering the obligatory prayers (that is Fard only). If someone cannot stand and pray as the practicing norm is, one may sit on a chair and even if that is not possible, one may lie down and pray.

The only excuse is that if someone is insane and mentally not stable who has no control over his actions. Even during travel, there is no excuse from obligatory prayers. However, due to hazards of travel, the obligatory cycles (Fard) have been allowed to be offered in half, except the Maghrib (evening) prayer, which remain three as otherwise.
The above video says it all about observing prayers no matter what!!
(Shared at Twitter by @islamicfreedom)

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has emphasized many a times that the prayers must be offered at the appointed times of given time bracket, but as early as possible. This carries great reward as promised by Allah (سبحانه و تعالى‎).

This Hadith is mentioned in Sunan Abi Dawud (Book # 2 Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat): كتاب الصيام / Chapter # 158 Preserving the Prayer Times / باب فِي الْمُحَافَظَةِ عَلَى وَقْتِ الصَّلَوَاتِ ) as Hadith number # 425, quoted herein under:

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Sunabihi:
Abu Muhammad fancies that witr prayer is essential. (Hearing this) Ubadah ibn as-Samit said: Abu Muhammad was wrong. I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: Allah, the Exalted, has made five prayers obligatory. If anyone performs ablution for them well, offers them at their (right) time, and observes perfectly their bowing and submissiveness in them, it is the guarantee of Allah that He will pardon him; if anyone does not do so, there is no guarantee for him on the part of Allah; He may pardon him if He wills, and punish him if He wills.
Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani):

The essence of the above quoted Hadith is:
  • Performing ablution as best as possible, ensuring no part of the body which is to be washed as obligatory is left dried.
  • Offering the prayer at the right time, preferably in a masjid in congregation
  • Focusing on pleasing Allah all the time and not as a show off for others.
  • If these conditions are fulfilled, Allah guarantees his pardon.
* Please read our following posts for guidance on performing Salat:
My dear brothers and sisters in Islam, please adhere to many commandments and Hadiths on prayer and make sure you perform these as best as you can, thinking it to be the last prayer of your life, for you never know whether you will be alive for the next prayer.
Who should lead the prayer - As Salat (Hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

The five daily prayers (As Salat) are obligatory on every sane man and woman as ordained by our Lord, the One and Only God, master of the entire universe and creations therein. Therefore, efforts must be made to attend to our daily prayers unless compelled by some extraordinary circumstances, but not excuses.

It is the duty of the elders nor only to ensure that those younger to them attend the prayers, but also it is the duty of the eldest in a group or those present in a masjid to lead the prayer as directed by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

This directive is mentioned in a hadith in This Hadith is mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī  (Book 95 - Accepting Information Given by a Truthful Person /  كتاب أخبار الآحاد / Chapter 1: Acceptance of the information given by one truthful person in about all matters / بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي إِجَازَةِ خَبَرِ الْوَاحِدِ الصَّدُوقِ فِي الأَذَانِ وَالصَّلاَةِ وَالصَّوْمِ وَالْفَرَائِضِ وَالأَحْكَامِ) as Hadith 7246, given herein under:

Narrated by Malik:
We came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and we were young men nearly of equal ages and we stayed with him for twenty nights. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was a very kind man and when he realized our longing for our families, he asked us about those whom we had left behind. When we informed him, he said, "Go back to your families and stay with them and teach them (religion) and order them (to do good deeds). The Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned things some of which I remembered and some I did not. Then he said, "Pray as you have seen me praying, and when it is the time of prayer, one of you should pronounce the call (Adhan) for the prayer and the eldest of you should lead the prayer. "
The above quoted Hadith while emphasizes the youth to teach the religion as they have understood by listening to the elders or scholars and Imams in the schools and masjid and order them to do good, it also teaches how the prayers are offered and led. The Prophet (ﷺ) emphasized on three things:
  • Pray as you have seen me praying,
  • When it is the time of prayer, one of you should pronounce the call (Adhan) for the prayer, and
  • The eldest of you should lead the prayer.
Why are we sharing this Hadith is to counter a practice generally seen in the masjid. Instead of leading the prayer, the older and the eldest are seen offering their prayers led by men far younger than their age. This happens for most of us are not laced with adequate knowledge of Qur'an, nor we strive to do so and leave such matter like leading the prayers and spreading knowledge of Islam to professionals. In fact, the elderly should have had gained more knowledge about Deen, Qur'an and Sunnah than those younger to them. And by leading the prayer, they are in fact ensuring the practical manifestation of their faith and knowledge of the Deen.

Let us all strive to muster as much knowledge about Deen so that when we get old, we are in a position to lead prayers and share what our religious knowledge with our youngsters. And who knows while leading the prayer the angel of death begets us - how blessed would be that time, dont you think so my brothers and sisters in Islam.
(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”
That is Our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible for making you accept it forcibly, and if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, you will yourselves be answerable for your actions on Day of Resurrection.

If your feet do not lead you to prayers (As Salat), these would not lead you to Jannah (Paradise) EITHER!!

All Divine religions offer prayer as ordained by the Lord of the universe, the One and Only God, who created the entire universe, and life wherever it prevails. In fact, a prayer made to our Lord is a "Thank You for everything" for without His blessings we would not have survived even for a single day. The importance of prayer/As salat is more emphasized in Islam than in any religion, for Jews and Christians attend the synagogue or church once a week, Muslims are ordained to offer five prayers EVERY DAY.

At number of places in the Qur'an, Allah has commanded believers to offer prayers for prayers directly connect a believer to Allah:

اِنَّنِىۡۤ اَنَا اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنَا فَاعۡبُدۡنِىۡ ۙ وَاَقِمِ الصَّلٰوةَ لِذِكۡرِىۡ‏
"Verily I am Allah. There is no god beside Me. So, serve Me and establish Prayers to remember Me." (Surah 20 Ta Ha :14)
This is the real object of Salat. It has been prescribed to remind people that they should not become neglectful of Allah by worldly diversions and that they should remember that man is not an unbridled free being but a servant of Allah. Salat has been prescribed five times a day to remind man of Allah’s presence. The five prayers are offered before dawn, noon, midafternoon, just after sunset and then at night.

The importance of offering prayers can be gauged from one of the saying of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him):
"The first matter that the slave will be brought to account for on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is sound, then the rest of his deeds will be sound. And if it is bad, then the rest of his deeds will be bad." [Recorded by al-Tabarani. According to al-Albani, it is Sahih. Al-Albani, Sahih al-Jami, vol.1, p. 503.

In another Hadith, as reported by Abu by Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The nearest a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself, so make supplication (in this state). So, wouldn't a believer be like to be near to his Lord while prostrating during daily prayers?

Since prayers are obligatory, these have to be offered no matter where one is. If a masjid is nearby, it is better performed there. But in case a masjid is not nearby, it can be offered anywhere, be it one's home, office or any place of work. Even one is not allowed to miss a a prayer when traveling. However,r for travelers a 50% concession is given in their numbers.

Prayer or As Salat, as is known in Arabic, has been made obligatory on every sane adult man and woman and there is no excuse or escape from it. Even if one is travelling, one must offer prayer, as for the ease of traveler, the number of obligatory cycles has been halved. If someone cannot offer prayer while standing, he should sit and pray and if one cannot even sit, then one should offer prayer while lying down on the bed.

This is the importance of prayer in Islam and one must never miss one's prayer. And if for some reason, a prayer is missed due to oversleeping or any other reason, one must make good by offering prayer on the first available opportunity.

If this is the importance of prayers in Islam, the one who misses the prayers regularly, should feel concerned for If one's feet do not lead him to prayers, these would not lead him to Jannah (Paradise) EITHER!!

So, my brothers and sisters in Islam, let us force our feet to lead us to a masjid or a prayer mat when it is time for an obligatory prayer. So long as we establish and guard our prayers, we are likely to please Allah and become a contender for Jannah. Let us not lose this opportunity while we are alive. Many in their graves would repent for not having been regular in guarding their prayers and would wish to be sent back to worldly life so that they could make up for the lost prayers. But this will not be so and cannot happen. Time is now!!

May Allah (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. May all our wrong doings, whether intentional or unintentional, be forgiven before the angel of death knocks on our door.

May Allah forgive me if my posts ever imply a piety far greater than I possess. I am most in need of guidance.

Note: When we mention God in our posts, we mean One True God, we call Allah in Islam, with no associates. Allah is the Sole Creator of all things, and that Allah is all-powerful and all-knowing. Allah has no offspring, no race, no gender, no body, and is unaffected by the characteristics of human life.

Which three out of five daily prayers are more rewarding when offered in congregation

After taking Shahada and entering the fold of Islam, Salat (Prayer) is the most important pillar of Islam. During the day and night, offering Salat five times a day is obligatory on every adult Muslim. While one may offer prayer anywhere to one's convenience, offering Salat in a masjid in congregation behind the imam is extremely rewarding, for this allows Muslims to stand side by side to remember Allah. It also provides an opportunity for Muslims to get to know each other and their wellbeing.

Although all prayers in congregation have their status, yet the Fajr (pre-dawn), Dhur (midday, including the Jumu'ah prayer) and Isha (late night) prayer have their own rewards as mentioned by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

This Hadith is mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī  (Book 10 - Call to Prayers (Adhaan) كتاب الأذان / Chapter 9: To draw lots for pronouncing the Adhan باب الاِسْتِهَامِ فِي الأَذَانِ ) as Hadith 615, given herein under:

Narrated by Abu Huraira:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "If the people knew the reward for pronouncing the Adhan and for standing in the first row (in congregational prayers) and found no other way to get that except by drawing lots they would draw lots, and if they knew the reward of the Zuhr prayer (in the early moments of its stated time) they would race for it (go early) and if they knew the reward of `Isha' and Fajr (morning) prayers in congregation, they would come to offer them even if they had to crawl."

Islam allows us to bag as much rewards in this world which will come handing in settling our scores on a higher scale on the Day of Judgement. Every single act of charity and prayer adds to our rewards. Why not top up our reward account by offering prayers in congregation in the masjids, specially the three mentioned above, which are more rewarding than the remaining two. Time is now to get benefitted from the opportunities provided to us.
Believers!! Enjoin Prayer (As Salat) on your household

As Salat, the obligatory prayers five times a day, is the first important pillar of Islam after taking the Shahadah and entering into the fold of Islam. For it is As Salat that establishes a one-to-one communication between the Lord of the entire universe and His servants. Except for some laxities, As Salat is obligatory on every adult man and woman in Islam.

No other commandment in Qur'an is so oft repeated except the commandment to enforce As Salat. Importance of praying Salah on time can be understood by these hadith: "Abdullah asked the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) "Which deed is the dearest to Allah?" He replied, "To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times." (Sahih al-Bukhari 527).

Thus, it is incumbent on every parent to enjoin As Salat on their children as has been commanded in the 132th verse of Surah 20. Ta Ha given below:

وَاۡمُرۡ اَهۡلَكَ بِالصَّلٰوةِ وَاصۡطَبِرۡ عَلَيۡهَا ؕ لَا نَسۡـئَلُكَ رِزۡقًا ؕ نَحۡنُ نَرۡزُقُكَ ؕ وَالۡعَاقِبَةُ لِلتَّقۡوٰى‏
(20:132) Enjoin Prayer on your household, and do keep observing it. We do not ask you for any worldly provision; rather, it is We Who provide you, and ultimately the pious will end up the best.
That is, "Teach your children also that lawful provision is much better than the unlawful riches of the wicked people. For this purpose, enjoin them to say their prescribed Prayers, for this will change their attitude, their standard of values, and make them contented with pure provisions and virtuous life in preference to the life of sin and luxury."

"We do not ask you to offer your Prayers for any benefit of Our own. We ask you to do that for your own good, because this will create piety in you which will bring about true success for you in this world and in the Hereafter."

Tafsir Ibn-Kathir
(And enjoin the Salah on your family, and be patient in offering them.) This means to save them from the punishment of Allah by the establishment of the prayer, and you also be patient in performing it.
This is as Allah says, (O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell).) [66:6]
Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Zayd bin Aslam reported from his father that he and Yarfa' would sometimes spend the night at `Umar bin Al-Khattab's. `Umar had a certain time of night that he would get up and pray. However, sometimes he would not get up for it. Then, we would say, "He is not going to get up like he usually does.' When he would awaken, he would make his family get up as well. He would say, (And enjoin the Salah on your family, and be patient in offering them.)''

Allah said; (We ask not of you a provision: We provide for you.) This means that if you establish the prayer, your sustenance will come to you from where you did not expect. This is as Allah says:
(And whosoever has Taqwa of Allah, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine.) [65:2-3]
Allah also says, (And I (Allah) created not the Jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone).) until, (Verily, Allah is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, the Most Strong.) [51:56-58]
Thus, Allah says, (We ask not of you a provision: We provide for you.)

Verily, At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah said, (Allah, the Exalted, says, "O son of Adam, perform My worship and I will fill your chest with wealth and fulfill your needs. If you do not do so, then I will fill your chest with toil and I will not fulfill your needs.') It is also reported from Zayd bin Thabit that he heard the Messenger of Allah saying:
(Whoever makes worldly life his major concern, then Allah will scatter his situation for him (i.e. make it difficult) and his poverty will be placed between his eyes. He will not get from this world anything except that which has already been written for him. Whoever makes the Hereafter his intention, then his situation will be gathered for him (i.e. made easy) and his wealth will be placed in his heart. The worldly life will come to him anyway (in spite of his not seeking it).)
Concerning Allah's statement, (وَالْعَـقِبَةُ لِلتَّقْوَى and the good end is for those who have Taqwa.) This means the good end to this life and in the Hereafter. In the Hereafter the good end will be Paradise for whoever feared Allah.

Muhammad Asad Explanation:
(And bid thy people to pray, and persevere therein. [But remember:] We do not ask thee to provide sustenance [for Us] :) My interpolation of the words "for Us" is based on Razi’s interpretation of the above sentence: "God makes it clear that He has enjoined this [i.e., prayer] upon men for their own benefit alone, inasmuch as He Himself is sublimely exalted above any [need of] benefits." In other words, prayer must not be conceived as a kind of tribute to a "jealous God" - as the Old Testament, in its present corrupted form, frequently describes Him - but solely as a spiritual benefit for the person who prays.

(It is We who provide sustenance for thee. And the future belongs to the God-conscious.) Lit., "to God-consciousness".

Yusuf Ali Explanation:
Sustenance, in the sense of the ordinary needs of life, the man of Allah does not worry about. That is provided by Allah for all, the just and the unjust. But the special provision, the Real Sustenance, the spiritual fruit, is for a righteous life in the service of Allah.

Javed Ahmad Ghamidi Explanation:
(Urge your people) The actual word is: اَهْلَكَ. It refers to all those people who until that time had accepted faith. The word اَهْل in Arabic has this vastness in it. Here the eloquence found in its usage is that the status of the poor and the needy is raised such that they have become members of the Prophet’s (sws) family.

(To the prayer and adhere to it yourself also. We do not ask for any sustenance from you [for them so that for it you may need to look at the means and resources of anyone].) The implication is that the Prophet (sws) should not think that if these people do not accept faith, then the message of God and the poor and needy who come forward to accept it will be left helpless in this land. He should not think along any of these lines. The Prophet (sws) does not require the help of these ingrates for his followers and for furthering his message. He has God with him and He is sufficient to help and strengthen him and his companions.

(It is We Who shall provide sustenance to you.) Ie., to him and to those who will become his associates in his preaching mission. It is God’s responsibility to provide it to them and when He assigns some task to someone, He takes upon Himself the responsibility of providing for him. Hence the Prophet (sws) should do God’s work and be diligent in the prayer. The rest is God’s responsibility and he should leave it to Him and not be worried about it. If he is fulfilling his duty, then in the words of Jesus (sws), he deserves his remuneration.

([We require piety from you) Ie., piety both in knowledge and in deeds and also in the task God has assigned him.

Tafsir Qur'an Wiki:
We must not understand this verse as encouraging self-denial or disdain for the comforts of this life. It is rather an encouragement to hold on to true and lasting values, to maintain one’s ties with God and be contented. This is the best way to resist the temptation of the splendour and attractions of this life. When we maintain such values, we are free to rise above the lure of false temptations, splendid as they may appear. “Enjoin prayer on your people.” (Verse 132) The first duty of a Muslim is to make his home a Muslim home, enjoining his family to attend to their prayers so that they all maintain their ties with God. Thus, they are united in their approach to life. Life in a home where all members turn to God for worship is certainly a happy one. “And be diligent in its observance.” (Verse 132) Be diligent so that you offer your prayers completely and its effect becomes a reality. Prayer restrains man from loathsome deeds and indecency. This is its true effect. To attain the level where prayer provides such restraint requires diligence in its observance. Unless we reach the stage that our prayer yields this fruit, it remains a mere sequence of phrases and movements. Prayer and worship generally are duties assigned to the Prophet and believers. God does not gain anything by them. He is in need of no one: “We do not ask you for any provisions. It is We who provide for you.” (Verse 132) Worship nurtures God- consciousness within the worshipper. Hence, “the future belongs to the God-fearing.” (Verse 132) It is man who benefits by prayer, both in this life and in the life to come. He offers his worship to God and he enjoys, as a result, a state of contentment. He is comfortable and reassured. Furthermore, he ultimately receives a much greater reward in the hereafter. As for God, He needs nothing from anyone.

Now you may listen to the following short clipped video to explanation of the aforesaid Ayat by eminent Muslim scholar Nouman Ali Khan:
May Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى‎) help us understand Qur'ān and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is embodiment of commandments of Allah contained in the Qur'ān. May Allah help us to be like the ones He loves and let our lives be lived helping others and not making others' lives miserable or unlivable. Prophetic Prayer While in Prostration (Sunnah Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

As Salat / Prayer is a one-to-one means of communication between a servant and his Lord. It is the time when a servant must invoke many blessings of his Lord and seek forgiveness for his past sins and misdeeds. Although prophets of God are above sins or misdeed for which they should be sorry for and seek forgiveness of their Lord, yet they would still supplicate for maybe they could have hurt someone unknowingly or said something that could have meant something different what actually means and could annoy someone.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ always supplicated for his blessing and blessing of the entire Ummah, whether alone or in company so that others too learn these supplications and often recite these for their forgiveness. The Hadith being shared today covers the same theme as mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (Book # 4 The book of prayers كتاب الإيمان / Chapter (What Is to Be Said While Bowing and Prostrating)) as Hadith number # 1084:

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that when he prostrated, the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to say: "Allahummaghfirli dhanbi kullahu diqqahu wa jillahu, wa awwalahu wa akhirahu, wa 'alaniyatahu wa sirrahu (O Allah, forgive me all my sins, great and small, first and last, open and secret.)"

A simple yet very well-meaning prayer which covers all kinds of sins one may have committed in his life. We may remember this supplication by heart and may recite while prostrating or even otherwise to be saved of the punishment of our committed sins.
